Social media platform Twitter tagged some tweets of the BJP leader Sambit Patra about the Congress Toolkit as ‘Manipulated Media’.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Friday wrote to Twitter asking it to remove the tags.

The ministry wrote in the letter “Such tagging by Twitter appears prejudged, prejudiced and a deliberate attempt to colour the investigation by the local law enforcement agency. This action not only dilutes the credibility of Twitter as a neutral and unbiased platform facilitating exchange of views by the users but also puts a question mark on the status of Twitter as an intermediary.”

Recently, two documents of the Congress party were exposed in which the party had described how to malign the image of senior BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Also, the Congress ToolKit discussed ways to hoard hospital beds and essential medicines and release it only if the Indian Youth COngress’ twitter handle was tagged.

Patra had tweeted, “Friends look at the #CongressToolKit in extending help to the needy during the Pandemic! More of a PR exercise with the help of “Friendly Journalists” & “Influencers” than a soulful endeavour. Read for yourselves the agenda of the Congress: #CongressToolKitExposed”

In another tweet, he wrote, “Disgusting to say the least ..Rahul Gandhi wanting to use this opportunity of Pandemic to destroy the image of PM Modi. Congress workers instructed to call the mutant strain as “Modi strain” No stone left unturned to scar the name of India with the help of Foreign Journalists!!”

The Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to officially lodge a complaint with Twitter.
