Hindi news channel Aaj Tak’s Executive Editor and Hindi journalism’s most celebrated journalist Rohit Sardana passed away Friday morning.
He was recovering from Covid-19 but suffered a cardiac arrest Friday morning.
People from all walks of life condoled the untimely death of a star journalist at such a young age.
Sardana was 42.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death and expressed their sympathies with the family of Sardana.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
What surprised many was none from the Nehru family condoled the death of Sardana.
Three members of the Nehru family are in active politics today. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former president and aspiring prime minister Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra.
None of them said a word about Sardana. None of them condoled his sudden and untimely death.
Rahul Gandhi recently derided the people of North India, saying they don’t understand issues and don’t do smart politics, while he was campaigning for just concluded Kerala assembly polls. Rahul is three term MP from Amethi, his family bastion, in Uttar Pradesh but he lost the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi to BJP’s Smriti Irani.
When NDTV’s Ravish Kumar had won the Magsaysay award in 2019, Rahul was amongst the first to publicly congratulate him.
He has not visited Amethi after losing the polls.
When Congress leader and former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao died in December 2004, his body was not allowed in the Congress headquarters.
Sonia Gandhi was the president of the party and also chairman of the United Progressive Alliance, a Congress-led alliance which came to power in 2004.
When Sonia Gandhi entered active politics, Sitaram Kesari was the party president.
Kesari was allegedly locked up in the washroom of the party headquarters on the Akbar road on the day Sonia entered the party office to take charge as president.
