The Ghaziabad police in Uttar Pradesh arrested Hyatt Health Insurance CEO Dr. Md. Altamash and his two accomplices, Kumail Akram and Zazib ALi, Tuesday for hoarding and black marketing Remdesivir.
Remdesivir, an antiviral medicine is in huge demand because of the sudden surge in the number of Covid-19 patients.
Md. Altamash was selling the medicine for INR 40000-50000/vial in the western Uttar Pradesh. He allegedly made more than 40 lakh rupees.
About 70 vials of Remdesivir and INR 36 lakh in cash has been recovered from Md. Altamash.
Police said Md. Altamash had been associated with AIIMS, New Delhi, in the past.
The Union government has been making every effort to ensure the patients in need of Remdesivir are not deprived of it.
The Uttar Pradesh government Monday announced that the injection would be provided free of cost to patients in the state.
If the injection is not available in private clinics, the concerned district magistrate would be duty bound to procure it and provide it to the private clinic.
The US pharma giant Gilead has pledged Sunday to supply at least 4.5 lakh vials of Remdesivir.
