Guwahati: Amidst all political rallies in Assam, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda on Monday stepped up attacks on the opposition Indian National Congress party for its pre-poll alliance with Moulana Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which would emerge as a threat to culture and heritage of the State.

Seeking votes for the party candidates on 27 March, 1 and 6 April State legislative assembly elections, Nadda alleged that the Congress could only hurt the State’s culture with its coalition to Ajmal’s communal politics. He mentioned that in 2006, Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi asked a sensible question ‘Who is Ajmal?’, which was lauded by the people, but it has made compromises today.

“If we look at the ideology of present Congress leaders, they are contesting against Left parties in Kerala, but they maintain friendship with CPM in West Bengal. In Assam, they are fighting elections with the help of a communal party like AIUDF and how thus they can development to the country,” said Nada accused the grand old party of misgovernance, where as Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes in pro-people initiatives.

He reminded that the BJP led government in New Delhi initiated for Bharat Ratna award to Assam’s legendary cultural personality Dr Bhupen Hazarika and sanctioned rupees 188 crores for the development of Batadrawa Than, the birthplace of Vaishnav Guru Shrimanta Shankardev. Nadda also cited various developmental activities of Sarbananda Sonowal led government in Dispur including the preservation and promotion of over 11000 Naamghars across Assam.
Meanwhile, campaigning for CM Sonowal in Majuli, Union home minister Amit Shah also slammed the Congress for its failure to stop illegal infiltration to Assam (from Bangladesh). Speaking about the party’s alliance with Ajmal led AIUDF, Shah asserted adding that the Congress did not show its political will to fix the influx problem with an aim to safeguard the culture of indigenous people, when it was with power both in New Delhi and Dispur.

Shah also mentioned about the large scale encroachment of various Satra (Vaishnavite monastery) lands and rampant poaching incidents of one-horned rhinos in Kaziranga National Park along with other forest reserves during the Congress days. In five years of the BJP led government, the people in Assam have witnessed important measures to
make Satras and Kaziranga encroachment-free and drastically reduce the number of poaching, he added.

He did not forget to reiterate the government’s commitment to address the perennial problems of Assam including the flood and erosion and promised that the new government would execute an ambitious project involving large water reservoirs and channels to divert the extra volume of water from Brahmaputra and its tributaries. In presence of Sonowal, he appreciated the government for developing an ambience of no corruption and almost no insurgency in the last five years.
