Guwahati: Senior BJP leader and State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal addressed four election campaign rallies at Patacharkushi, Khowang, Moran, Tingkhang and Sonari to call the electorates to vote for candidates of the ruling alliance in the State legislative assembly polls. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed three poll rallies in the State on Wednesday.
Sonowal asserted that the BJP government in Dispur has transformed the narrative of underdevelopment left behind by the Congress during its five-year tenure and it has empowered people from all sections of the society to live a dignified life. He reiterated the commitment to end terrorism, corruption, illegal migrants and pollution in Assam.
The soft-spoken leader commented that the government has prepared the groundwork for making Assam a participant in the race to become a top State in the country. He recalled how no work could be done without bribes during the Congress government tenure when the public had to pay prices for getting benefits from various government schemes.
In presence of State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass, who filed his nomination for the Patacharkuchi seat, Sonowal asserted that now the beneficiaries have been able to receive government scheme benefits directly in their bank accounts without middlemen and many meritorious poor youths have been given jobs transparently as irregularity and corruption have been removed from the government recruitment system.
Meanwhile, Yogi paid a visit to Kamakhya temple in the city for worshipping the deity before addressing public rallies. The hardliner nationalist leader criticized Congress for maintaining appeasement politics and ignoring Assam and the north-eastern region in its tenures. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken special cares of the region and hence developmental activities launched here.
He mentioned Shrimanta Shankardev, the fifteen-century Vashnavite philosopher, who shaped the Assamese culture and paid tributes to the legend as a preacher of great Indian cultural heritage. Yogi urged the electorates to vote for BJP candidates for ensuring the process of development.
