Guwahati: As the first phase polling of Assam legislative assembly elections has been approaching, the poll campaign meetings in various parts of the State start attracting a huge number of people where the potential voters could listen to star-campaigners of different political parties, where the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading from the front.
The party has engaged a number of political heavyweights including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, Union minister Smrity Irani, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis etc for election-related rallies.
Senior BJP leader Fadnavis, while addressing a rally in Nalbari locality, criticized the opposition Congress party for forging an alliance with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for their inherent intention to divide Assam on the religious line. Giving full marks to State CM Sarbananda Sonowal for his works during the last five years, Fadnavis urged everyone to remain alert against the divisive forces.
Similar voices were also raised by BJP veteran Chouhan who commented that the Congress was following (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah’s path to destroy the country. He condemned the opposition party for comprising the Badruddin Ajmal led AIUDF in the grand alliance with the sole aim to create a vote bank. Chouhan termed it as a cheating alliance (Thogbandhan).
He also added, today the Congress does not prefer Ghulam Nabi Azad or Anand Sharma, but Ajmal in Assam, Muslim League in Kerala, Furfura Sharif in West Bengal etc. Chouhan termed the Congress as a failed party that only gave the corruption, infiltration, terrorism, violence, unemployment and hunger. He predicted that the oldest party would become a matter of past under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
On the other hand, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel along with local Congress leaders also campaigned for their candidates in various localities highlighting the party’s five-guarantees to the electorates. Parliamentarian Gaurav Gogoi expressed happiness with the overwhelming supports from the common people and predicted a Congress led government in Dispur after the polls.
Nadda also in his addresses targeted the Congress for the false promises and commented that the party can only ensure corruption if voted to power again. While BJP believes in a mission, the Congress understands only the commission, he added. The saffron party chief criticized the opposition party for creating a vote bank with the Muslim migrants (from Bangladesh). He also stated that the country is heading towards a Congress-Mukt Bharat.
