In a major breakthrough in the Mukesh Ambani bomb scare case, the National Investigation Agency Saturday arrested Assistant Police Inspector of Maharashtra Police Sachin Waze.

Waze is suspected of involvement in placing the bomb-laden vehicle near the residence of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

The NIA had asked Waze to join the probe. After more than 10 hours of interrogation, the Agency announced his arrest late at night.

A vehicle, with 20 gelatin sticks inside it, was found abandoned near Mukesh Ambani’s residence in Mumbai on February 25.

The matter took a very dramatic turn when the body of the vehicle owner, Mansukh Hiren, was found in a creek in Thane on March 5.

Mansukh’s wife Vimla blamed Waze for the businessman’s murder. The Anti-Terror Squad of the Maharashtra Police is investigating the murder case.

The post-mortem report of Mansukh has also pointed towards some foul play. It is also suspected he was murdered about 12 hours before his body was found.

Earlier, Waze had applied for an anticipatory bail in the murder case but the court turned it down saying since Waze’s name was in the FIR, custodial interrogation might be required.

In 2002 also, Waze was arrested for a similar case and was suspended from duty for about 17 years. His suspension was revoked only recently.
