The Mumbai-based Raza Academy approached the Supreme Court with a Public Interest Litigation to dismiss a petition which has requested the court to remove 26 verses from Quran.
The PIL to remove 26 verses from Quran was filed by former Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairman Wasim Rizvi.
Rizvi has submitted these 26 verses are used to promote terrorism, violence and jihad.
The Academy has also requested the court to pass strictures against Wasim Rizvi for hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
Many other Muslim religious organisations and clerics have criticised Rizvi for filing the petition.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board has criticised Rizvi for insulting the Quran. Its secretary Maulana Mehmood Daryabadi said nothing has changed in the Quran in more than 14 centuries. He added the Quran doesn’t promote violence.
There has also been a bounty declared on his head by some Muslim clerics.
