Haridwar: Devotees take holy dip in river Ganga on Maha Shivratri today

In Haridwar, a large number of devotees are taking holy dip in river Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri today from early morning. Devotees across the country gathered in massive numbers in Haridwar at ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ to take holy dip in the river Ganga at Har ki Pauri .

The first Shahi Snan at Mahakumbh, in Haridwar, is set to take place on Maha Shivratri. Special arrangements have been made in Haridwar as large number of devotees from across the country are taking holy dip in the Ganga on Shivratri. River Ganga, the most revered river, has a very close connection with Lord Shiva and there are innumerable mythological stories surrounding it.

The Mahakumbh at Haridwar is happening after 12 years. The location of the Kumbh is based on the position of the Sun, Moon, and the planet Jupiter in different zodiac constellations. During the Kumbh Mela, lakhs of people gather to take a holy dip in the river, especially on the auspicious bathing days.
