There have been no riots in Uttar Pradesh since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in March 2017, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the assembly Wednesday.
“There used to be riots in the state every now and then. But, since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in March 2017, there have been no riots in the state”, he said.
He also assured the people that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of the lives and properties of the masses in the state.
After rioters had caused heavy damage to the public properties during the Anti-CAA protests in the state in December 2019, the government had passed an order to recover the cost of the damages from those found involved in rioting.
The chief minister was speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Budget session of the assembly.
In his nearly three-hour-long speech, the chief minister spoke on a range of issues.
He also requested the Congress party not to make fun of the fight against the global pandemic of Corona.
He was referring to the Congress General Secretary Priyanka Vadra’s offer of 1000 buses to carry the migrants when the lockdown was announced in March last year. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the list provided to the government had a fake registration number of vehicles.
The chief minister criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for saying North Indians don’t do intelligent politics. He said, “Rahul Gandhi was a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for 15 years from North India. It is very shameful that he feels this for the people who elected him.” He added that the Congress party has always found solace in divisive issues.
In a public gathering in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi had criticised the North Indians for not doing “intelligent politics”. Rahul is a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Wayanad in Kerala. He was defeated in Amethi, which he represented from 2004-19, in Uttar Pradesh by the Union Minister Smriti Irani in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Taking a dig at Priyanka Vidra’s recent visits to Uttar Pradesh for taking part in Kisan Mahapanchayats, he said those who can’t tell the difference between a mango tree and a sugarcane are talking about the farmers’ issues. The chief minister said, “She keeps tweeting about her concerns sitting in Delhi. Many times her lies have been exposed on social media. She had to delete her social media statements.”
Supporting the new farm laws passed by the Union Government, he argued the laws are meant to provide the farmers more options and it will help them in increasing their profits.
