Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Puducherry tomorrow ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled to take place in April-May. This is PM’s second visit to Puducherry after becoming the Prime Minister. Interestingly, his first visit took place exactly three years prior to his scheduled second visit. PM is visiting Puducherry when L.G has recommended the President’s rule following the fall of V Narayanasamy led Congress government.

From the past few weeks, there had been a constant exodus of leaders and members from the Congress party to the BJP. Many MLAs had resigned from Congress, which eventually resulted in the V Narayanasamy government failing to prove its majority on the assembly floor. With the previous Congress government facing multiple corruption allegation and misgovernance, this is the best time for BJP/NDA to come to power in Puducherry.

Puducherry was the last place in the South where Congress had power. Hence, now South India is Congress-mukt.

Puducherry can be BJP’s second gateway to the South. A victory in the Tamil speaking Puducherry can be a big achievement since it will have a major impact in Tamil Nadu, where the party is slowly expanding its base.

The Congress party projected Namassivayam as its chief ministerial face in 2016, but after winning the elections, Gandhi-family loyalist Narayanasamy was para dropped from Delhi. The mandate was stolen right after the elections, and Namassivayam could be BJP’s face in Puducherry.

PM Modi’s arrival in Puducherry should be seen as the beginning of a new era where people’s aspirations will come to reality under a stronger leadership.
