In what brought the smile on many faces, Uttar Pradesh recorded zero Corona related deaths Monday. Thirty-Seven districts in the state recorded no new cases of infection, informed Amit Mohan Prasad, Principal Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh.
Total reported new cases in the state stood at 113. These cases were reported from the 38 of the 75 districts in the state.
Uttar Pradesh, with a population of 20 crores, is the most populous state in the country. The total number of active cases in the state is 3442 and recovery rate is more than 98 per cent.
Addressing a press conference, Prasad said, “Vaccination of health workers have been completed in the state. If someone has been left out, will be vaccinated on February 15.”
With 65670 and 35991 active cases respectively, Kerala and Maharashtra top the chart of total active cases. Together, these two states have more than 70 per cent of the total active cases, 1.43 lakhs, in the country.
The first case of Coronavirus was detected in the country on January 30, 2020, in Kerala when three medical students, who had returned from Wuhan in China, tested positive. The Coronavirus is believed to have originated in Wuhan in China.
When the three students were discharged from the hospital two weeks later, Kerala’s Health Minister KK Shailaja declared the state had won the fight against the virus.
But, it was not to be. Today, Kerala has nearly half of the total active cases in the country.
The premature celebration of the ruling Leftists in Kerala did not last long. The state has been seeing a steady rise in the number of cases since May last year. The population of the state is 3.3 crores.
The Coronavirus started spreading across the globe in January last year. And in no time, it brought the world to a halt. Fighting the virus was never easy.
Taking one of the toughest decisions of his tenure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete lockdown in the country in March 2020 for a period of three weeks which was eventually extended. It helped in checking the spread of the virus.
A senior bureaucrat from Uttar Pradesh told Organiser, “The chief minister makes it a point to attend corona-related meetings every day. Could you imagine any other chief minister not attending his father’s funeral because he’s busy with administrative work?”
Prasad requested the people not to lower the guard arguing the state has been successful in checking the spread of the virus but it hasn’t been completely eradicated.
