China is notoriously known for exploiting its minorities and suppressing its dissidents. Over the past few years there are multiple reports coming out about China taking off organs from certain sections of their society without their consent. These organs are said to be illegally transported to foreign countries for transplantation operations. The Chinese government earns millions of dollars by selling these organs, or what is popularly known as ‘organ harvesting’.

Most of the organ harvesting happens in Xinjiang provide where the minority Uighur Muslims live. They are 12 million in numbers and a million of them are in Chinese re-education camps. Children are separated from their parents and people of this ethnic group are always under heavy surveillance. Chinese authorities have collected their blood samples. People are taken by the security forces and many simply don’t come back. With the ‘great firewall’ the government restricts any free flow of information regarding this to the outside world.

American scholar Guttmann, who wrote the book The Slaughter: Mass Killings, Organ Harvesting, and China’s Secret Solution to Its Dissident Problem once said ““China’s transplant volume is 60,000 to 100,000 transplants per year. Beijing has no intention of dismantling its vast transplant infrastructure. Over 15 million Uighurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and Hui have been blood tested, compatible with tissue matching. Over 1 million are in camps. So yes, the CCP has created a policy of ethnic cleansing – a potentially very profitable one.”

Huiqiong Liu, who had a close escape from being a scapegoat for organ harvesting told Haaretz newspaper that more than 25,000 people are killed every year by the Chinese state to grab their organs. Liu was taken to prison in 2001, at the age of 29, for being part of the Falun Ging spiritual movement. Liu said that she had to undergo blood tests, X-ray, blood pressure test and ECGs. “Sometimes they would take us to a hospital; other times, a large vehicle full of medical equipment would come to the camp and the checkups would be done in it,” Liu recalls. “They gave us all numbers and the doctors would follow-up on our situation. The doctors only knew the numbers, not our names. Sometimes they would ask for a specific number to be taken to the hospital. Those people never came back.

Liu said “Before I was taken to the hospital during my first arrest, they gave me a form to sign with my fingerprints,” she recounts. “The form was already filled out, but the name and address on it wasn’t mine; it was a name I didn’t recognize. I didn’t want to sign, but they made me do so anyway. They didn’t let me see what it was I was signing, but when I asked other women who were arrested with me, one of them – a woman who was sentenced to death – told me it was a consent form, saying I’m willing to donate my organs after I die.”

It is astonishing to see global Islamic leaders like Imran Khan and Erdogan remain mum on the Uighur genocide in Xinjiang. Organ Harvesting is the worst crime on humanity that a nation can inflict on its citizens. China’ economic superiority helps it to overcome any global condemnation of ruthless treatment of Uighur Muslims. As Rushan Abbas, the founder and executive director of Campaign for Uyghurs puts forward, China has established “organ farms,” where millions of people are forced to undergo DNA testing and are “prepped for slaughter. Without any intervention from the international community, China will reap huge wealth from its organ harvesting.
