A day after the Congress’s youth wing members burnt a tractor in Delhi in the name of protest against the new farm laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “They are insulting the farmers by setting fire to the machines and equipment that is worshipped by them. For years, they said that they would implement MSP, but they never did. This was done by our govt as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission ”.
The Opposition parties are protesting “just for the sake of it, their one more medium to earn a black income is finished,” he added.
Those opposing farm bills are against farmers, and they want middlemen to flourish, said PM Modi.
Four years ago, around this time, the country’s brave hearts carried out surgical strikes & destroyed bases of terror. But these people (opposition) were demanding evidence of surgical strike. By opposing the surgical strike, they’ve cleared their intention before the country. PM Modi added.
“For years, these people (opposition) didn’t do anything to empower our security forces. The Air Force kept asking for Rafale, but they never listened to them. When our government signed a contract with the French government for Rafale aircraft they started having a problem,” PM Modi said.
“When the world was celebrating International Yoga Day, under India’s initiative, they were opposing Yoga in India. When the Statue of Unity was being unveiled, they were opposing it,” he also said.
“Farmers can now sell their products to anyone, anywhere. They do not want farmers to sell their produce in an open market, they want middlemen to earn the profit,” PM Modi also said, adding “They’re opposing the freedom of farmers”.
PM Modi assured the farmers and said that “There will be not only MSP in the country but also the freedom for farmers to sell their produce anywhere.”
On September 28, 2020, President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to three farm bills which are now laws.
