In a startling revelation, prominent Twitter user Anshul Saxena has unearthed fake UPI IDs impersonating Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and soliciting funds for the same. Anshul in a post on Medium provided the details of the fake UPI IDs and the persons behind it.

As we already know, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra shared the details of their bank account, and their authentic UPI ID on their official Twitter account on 12 August 2020 (Link). The same UPI ID and bank details are also available on the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra’s official website. The official UPI ID of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra for donations for the cause is shriramjanmbhoomi@sbi.

However, Anshuls investigation revealed that many fraudsters created a number of fake UPI IDs pretending to be Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra’s UPI ID to trap people. Fraud UPI IDs were being misused to loot people and play with their religious sentiments.

“I had suspected that cyber frauds like this might happen. Therefore, I started busting them. I have busted 5 fraud UPI IDs which are very similar to the authentic UPI ID of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra”, writes Anshul in his post. He detected 5 fake UPI IDs, whose details are below:

1. shriramjanambhomi@sbi

2. sriramjanambhoomi@sbi

3. shriramjanambhumi@sbi

4. sriramjanmbhoomi@sbi

5. sriramjanmbhumi@sbi

All the 5 fake accounts detected were registered in the names of different persons but the same bank SBI, clearly to hoodwink donors.

Anshul writes, “Because the authentic UPI ID of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is in State Bank of India (SBI), the fraudsters were also careful enough to create their fake UPI IDs in SBI”. Consequently, he conveyed his findings to SBI over Twitter on August 24th. SBI responded saying that they had taken note of the issue.
