China to revive Pakistan-based Islamic terror group Al Badr to create unrest in J&K

Amid heightened tension between India and China along the Line of Actual Control, China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) wants to revive the Pakistan-based Islamic terror outfit Al Badr. According to the reports, the move is aimed at perpetrating violence and creating unrest in Jammu and Kashmir.

Al-Badr is an Islamic terrorist group formed by the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in 1998. As per various reports, it was encouraged by the ISI to operate independently from their previous umbrella group, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM). Both the Government of India and the USA have banned it as a terrorist organisation. The terror organisation had a history of perpetrating violence in Kashmir and Afghanistan.

According to a UNI report, recently, the cadres of Al Badr have met the Chinese officials in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The report also added that China was providing all sorts of support to revive this outfit.

Al Badr’s headquarter is located at Mansehra in Pakistan and a camp office in Muzaffarabad. Based on reports from 2013-18. Al Badr was active in the Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Srinagar and Kupwara districts of the Kashmir Valley. In the Jammu region, the group has a presence in the Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Amid the ongoing border tension between India and China, Pakistan has moved around 20,000 troops along the Gilgit-Baltistan area in PoJK, aiming to gain from India-China border tussle.
