New Delhi: The birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was, this year, celebrated through online activities. There are reports of organising different online events, discussions, lectures, etc. on or around April 14, the birth anniversary of Babasaheb.

In an online lecture, organised by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas jointly, RSS Sahsarkaryavah Dr. Krishna Gopal said Babasaheb fought for generating self-respect among the deprived sections of the society. Born in an ordinary family, Babasaheb received world-class education and he could have easily lived a lavish life by doing the practice of a Barrister. But he dedicated himself to the eradication of disparities from the society. “People from all castes and sections of the society joined the agitations by Babasaheb. He used to say that the prime reason for the country’s slavery was divisions in society. Many of those divisions still exist and eradicating them is our collective duty,” Dr. Krishna Gopal said.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad celebrated the birth anniversary of Babasaheb by felicitating sanitation warriors across the country and by distributing safety masks, hand gloves and sanitizers. VHP working president Shri Alok Kumar said Babasaheb was a ‘Yug Purush’ who fought against untouchability, casteism and social discrimination. He said this year big programmes like garlanding the statues of Babasaheb, etc. are not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic still the Corona terror cannot stop the countrymen from paying homage to the great personality. The people while staying at home following lockdown sat before the picture of Babasaheb, listened to inspiring themes from his life and times, and reiterated the vow to re-build a harmonious society. “Today, our sanitation workers are acting like warriors in the war against coronavirus pandemic. By honouring them, we pay our true tributes to Babasaheb,” he said.

Remembering Babasaheb, Shri Alok Kumar said he suffered from the brunt of casteism and deprivation since his childhood. Despite these humiliations, without any bitterness in his mind and heart, he fought throughout his life to build a harmonious society. Dr. Ambedkar was an outstanding warrior of ‘social justice’. Babasaheb had said that if self-refinement, grace, and dignity are attained by being free from untouchability, then not only will the Dalit section itself progress, but its chivalry and wisdom prove to be a factor for the country’s progress, Shri Kumar added.

There are reports of organising many functions in Delhi to felicitate the sanitation warriors. VHP general secretary Shri Milind Parande and VHP state president Shri Kapil Khanna felicitated sanitation warriors at the Sewa Basti near Kalawati Saran Hospital. VHP general secretary (organisation) Shri Vinayakrao Deshpande and working president of Delhi Shri Vagish Issar along with Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini office bearers felicitated sanitation warriors at the other function.

Meanwhile, Sewa Bharati Delhi announced help the corona warriors including non-governmental sanitation workers, health workers (contractual) and media persons. “All these people are working tirelessly even while putting their life in danger. Sewa Bharati has decided to provide ‘Shraddha Nidhi’ to such COVID-19 affected warriors. If the affected person is undergoing treatment, the Sewa Bharati would offer Rs 25,000 and if the warrior has succumbed to the pandemic, the Sewa Bharati would grant Rs one lakh to their families,” Sewa Bharati said in a statement.
