US President Donald Trump arrived at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad today on his maiden two-day visit to India. He is also accompanied by the US first lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and top brass of his administration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed them at the airport. They were also accorded the Guard of honour at the airport. Both the leaders led the 22 km long grand India Roadshow, which was attended by lakhs of people. The Gujarati artists performed various dance forms along the route to Sabarmati Ashram.
Both the leaders then reached Motera stadium to participate in Namaste Trump event.
Over 10,000 Gujarat police personnel, officials of US Secret Service and National Security Guards (NSG) and Special Protection Group (SPG) have been deployed for the high profile visit.
After the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad, Mr Trump and his entourage will fly to Agra to visit Taj Mahal. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will welcome the US president on his arrival. Mr Trump and his family will spend about an hour at the Taj Mahal complex.
In the evening, the US President will leave for Delhi for the main leg of the visit during which restricted and delegation-level talks between Mr Trump and Mr Modi will be held at Hyderabad House tomorrow.
The US President will reach the national capital this evening for the main leg of his visit where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India and the US are looking to sign around five pacts providing for cooperation in areas of intellectual property rights, trade facilitation and homeland security.
President Trump will depart from India tomorrow evening. In their talks, Mr Trump and Prime Minister Modi are likely to focus on a wide variety of bilateral and regional issues including trade and investment, defence and security, counter-terrorism, energy security and situation in the Indo-Pacific.
