New Delhi: The public outrage against the brutal rape and murder of a lady vet doctor in Hyderabad has received wide condemnation throughout the country. Senior saints including Swami Gyananand Maharaj, Sadhvi Ritambhara, etc, RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat and some Muslim scholars dwelt on the need to strengthen the character to prevent such horrendous incidents in future. “It is pertinent to respect and protect women. While we have laws for that and it is responsibility of the administration and government to implement them, we cannot leave the issue on them alone. The feeling of respect towards women should come from the family. The eyes with which you see women should be pure. While surroundings are not congenial to inculcate morality, discipline and control in the family is must,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat, while addressing the Geeta Prerana Mahotsav held at Red Fort Grounds on December 1, 2019. The Mahotsav was organised by Jio Geeta Sansthan of Geeta Manishi Swami Gyananand ji Maharaj.
Shri Bhagwat further said Geeta’s preaching, if followed, can play a significant role in the lives of people and can eulogise the role of women in the family and society. He said the message of Geeta was delivered by Shri Krishna to warrior prince Arjun during the Mahabharata, a war believed to have been fought to save the honour of Draupadi. The RSS Sarsanghachalak said, “Geeta has given all knowledge of spirituality in condensed form. It is a summarised form of all Upanishads which Shri Krishna expounded to Arjun. It has advocated that one should do devotion along with performing the duties.” He also said that Bhagavad Geeta helps one to rise above all challenges in life by following the timeless text. He said Geeta is our heritage and it should be imbibed by all 130 crore people of the country. Geeta wants that all 130 crore people should live a meaningful life.
Didi Maa Sadhvi Ritambhara said it is disgraceful for the people to witness incidents like rape in a country where Geeta was written. “Mothers are worshipped here and it is shameful that women are treated like this as happened in Hyderabad. The whole nation is ashamed. I think the girls should be self-sufficient and the culprits should get adequate punishment,” she said.
Union Minister Smt Smriti Irani appealed to the saints that they too should direct the society to respect women. “Whosoever has understood Geeta even a bit, know that protecting women is their dharma. Wherever saints go they should direct the families they sit with to ensure that women are respected,” she said while mentioning that expecting mothers and newborns should not face malnutrition.
Chief of Imams’ organisation, Omer Ahmed Ilyasi, also spoke about the victim and how severe punishment should be given to the perpetrators of this crime. Senior Congress leader Shri Janardan Dwivedi spoke at length about his duties to perform puja and how he believes that the core of the freedom struggle is the Geeta. “Geeta may be scripture to all but for me, it is my mother,” he said. Shri Dwivedi welcomed the amendment to Article 370. He said his political Guru Ram Manohar Lohia was against this Article of the Constitution. He said a historical blunder has been corrected, no matter late.
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla said Geeta is not merely a religious book, it provides practical knowledge to everyone. She stressed Geeta should not be confined to temples alone, it should be included in the curriculum of schools, colleges and universities so that the young generation of the country understands this knowledge and use in their practical life.
Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Manohar Lal pointed out that Haryana government has received Rs 95 crore for development of the first phase of Krishna Circuit. Now plans are being prepared for the second phase of the development. The Chief Minister pointed out that Mahabharata related pilgrimage places around Kurukshetra are being revived and developed. He also pointed out that this year International Geeta Mahotsav would be organised in Australia from March 20 to 22, 2020. He said Kurukshetra is being developed as ‘Divya’ and ‘Bhava’ Kurukshetra. He said the ancient religious places on the route of Saraswati River are also being developed. He said efforts are one to restart the flow of Saraswati River on the ground through modern technology.
