New Delhi: Samskrit Bharati, on July 15, felicitated the newly-elected Members of Parliament who took oath in the Parliament in Samskrit. The MPs after the felicitation said they would work to promote Sanskrit not only inside Parliament but also outside Parliament as well as in their respective constituencies.

Samskrit Bharati had organised the felicitation function at Constitution Club of India. A total of 47 newly-elected members of Lok Sabha, including Union Ministers Dr Harsh Vardhan, Shri Pratap Sarangi, Shri Ashwini Chaubey, Shri Dilip Ghosh and Shripad Yesso Naik were honoured.

Samskrit Bharati, organising secretary Shri Dinesh Kamath said the Speaker of Lok Sabha has been approached to hold training sessions for MPs in the Parliament to get acquainted with the ancient language. “Dr Ambedkar had stated that Sanskrit should be made the national language of India. When Dr Ambedkar was asked that Sanskrit was a language identified with the Brahmins and that he should not endorse it, he told his followers that Vyas, Valmiki and even Kalidas, the great poets of Sanskrit, were not Brahmins. Sanskrit elevates a human being, it unifies Bharat,” Shri Kamath added.

Reminding the importance of Samskrit, Shri Kamath said after the last Lok Sabha polls in 2014, 37 MPs had taken oath in Sanskrit and this time in 2019 the number has gone up to 47. “Not only the MPs are showing their interest in Sanskrit, the language is also being researched and taught in 40 countries and 254 universities across the world, including China. It is the mother of all Indian languages and even influences languages throughout South East Asia. There are 45 lakh manuscripts in Sanskrit, but unfortunately only 25,000 have been published,” Shri Kamath added.

Besides MPs and the Union Ministers, some senior Sangh leaders were also present. Senior Sangh Pracharak Shri Indresh Kumar said Sanskrit identifies Indian culture and the language should be promoted in all institutions across states.
