British Prime Minister expresses ‘regret’ for #JallianwalaBaghMassacre ; Labour Party demands “a full, clear and unequivocal apology”

British Prime Minister Theresa May in British Parliament today expressed regret for Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. She said, “We deeply regret what happened and the suffering caused.” The statement came from the UK as India prepares to mark the 100th anniversary of the killings.

Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the main opposition Labour Party, called for “a full, clear and unequivocal apology”.

On April 13, 1919, British troops opened fire on thousands of people including women and children, who were silently protesting at Jalianwala Bagh. The British records show about 400 people died in the incident. But according to Indian historians, more than 1,000 people were killed in the massacre.
