Shirdi: The three-day national conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, held from September 30 to October 2, stressed that the demand for a separate religion code would weaken the triabl society. A resolution passed at the meeting to this effect said the number of Hindus had reduced to 80% in 2011 among tribals whereas 90-95% of tribals had recorded their names in Hindu category from 1931 to 1951. In this period Christian population in tribal communities has grown from 1-2% to 10%. Hence, the demand for religion code is confusing, illegal and illogical, and it will weaken the tribal society. The resolution cautioned the triabls about the hidden agenda of religious conversion and appealed to those who have been recording their names under Hindu category since the time of their forefathers should continue to do the same in future too.

Delegates from Himachal Pradesh to Kerala and Andaman & Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat took part in the conference. The meeting was attended by more than 2500 representatives from various tribal communities and urban areas of the country. Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, wherein Pujya Sant Shri Ramgiri Maharaj blessed the delegates. Shri Ranjit Shekhar Mushahary, former Governor of Meghalaya, was the Guest of Honour.
Shri Fadnavis assured that patta would be granted to all the tribals living in forests till the end of 2019 and he would implement all the welfare programmes. He said the tribals have taken up the responsibility of protecting the Bharatiya culture and the Kalyan Ashram is trying to ensure unity among the tribal communities, which is praiseworthy. An exhibition organised as part of the conference comprised of colourful pictures of tribal traditions, culture, way of life as well as photo of great Janjati freedom fighters.
An appeal was made to speed up the activities related to village development. All delegates resolved to protect Janjati faith, culture and tradition. Intellectuals among Janjati delegates presented their views. Smt. Amruta Solanki, in her aggressive style exhorted that those who are spreading confusion among triabls should be questioned.
A novel programme to “celebrate diversity and experience unity” was also arranged on October 1 in which worshipping systems of various tribals were displayed. Everyone could experience the blend of nature worship and worshipping of various deities at one place.
