About the Shrine
Situated on the international border (IB) with Pakistan in Ramgarh sector of Samba district is the revered shrine of Baba Chamliyal.
Revered by people in India and Pakistan it is hugely popular among devotees of Sialkot area. In fact, there are two shrines, samadhis, one on the Indian side, another in Pakistan. It is believed that the head of Baba Dalip Singh is buried in Saidanwali on the Pakistani side and his torso is buried on the Indian side. It is believed that Baba Chamliyal lived about 320 years ago.
The festival is also celebrated by devotees for three days at Saidanwali village on the Pakistani side. One can easily see thousands of people gathered on the Pakistani side where constant drum-beating goes on. Upto 1971 India-Pakistan war, Pakistani nationals were allowed to come to visit the Indian side of the border to pay their obeisance at the shrine and offer chadar.
How to Reach
The nearest city of Jammu is located approximately 35 kms from the shrine. Travelling to the shrine is easy as it entails travelling westwards from Jammu on the national highway, up to Vijaypur town, and then turning south for Ramgarh town. It takes about an hour from Jammu to reach the shrine by own vehicle. The roads linking the highway to the shrine are not in a very good shape. n
