About the Site
About 150 kms from Delhi more than 3000 BC pre-Indus Valley civilisation site in Hissar district in Haryana is one of the most important sites which links it to the Harrapan times. Remnants of the ancient civilisation have been
excavated over a stretch of about one km.
The ASI proposes to shift around 70 families settled on the site located on the dry bed of river Ghaggar and turn it into a protected site.
The archaeological excavations revealed mature Harappan phase represented by planned township having mud-brick as well as burnt-brick houses with proper drainage system. The ceramic industry represented by red ware, which included dish-on-stand, vase, jar, bowl, beaker, perforated jar, goblet and handis. Animal sacrificial pit lined with mud brick and triangular and circular fire alters on the mud floor have also been excavated that signifiest the ritual system of Harappans. A cylindrical seal with five Harappan characters on one side and a symbol of an
alligator on the other is an important find from this site.
How to Reach
The place is around 150 kms from Delhi and is located close to Hissar and has a good road link. One can drive up or go by a public transport as well. n
