Five ‘S’ for Prosperous Nation

Chennai: Two-day Sewa Sangamam showcasing the service activities of various voluntary organisations associated with the Rashtriya Sewa Bharati was organised at the Nalli Kuppusami Vivekanandan Vidyalaya from September 18 to 19. Lt Governor of Puduchery Dr Kiran Bedi and Swami Vimurthananda of Ramakrishna Mutt inspired the workers engaged in the sewa activities.
Swami Vimurthananda said the Sewa Bharati workers are not only selfless volunteers but also self-disciplined. He said propagating about the sewa done is not advertising, it is only to inspire others. Sewa gives joy only when there is aim in it. Spiritualism and nationalism are the two eyes of sewa, which exhibits and asserts that our society will be far better in 10 years of now,” he said. Appealing to raise the standards of teaching through sewa, he said once teachers were the best brains, but today they are eliminated ones at many places. This should change.
RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh Shri Parag Abhyangar said sewa is not the new thing to our country, in every heart of the citizen it has been there. Sewa attitude is not inculcated through Veda reciting, it is the Hindu dharma tradition that has developed this attitude. Ups and downs in the society will be there, but discrimination should have no place. No one in the society should feel weak,he said.
Dr Kiran Bedi threw light on five thoughts which are needed for the nation. She stressed on five ‘S’– sanskar, sewa, swachata, sangathan and satsang. When sanskar enters one, he or she will not cheat and one will earn a place in the society. Second ‘S’ is sewa–action. If any action is done with prerna, then a healthy nation is possible. Third ‘S’ is swachata. Cleanliness is must for personal, community, society and nation. It is also important for productivity. It begins from home-neighbourhood-village-district-society-district-State-nation.
Fourth ‘S’ is sangathan—to see results we need sangathan (organisation). Transformation comes from sangathan. Every member can  make the sangathan strong or weak. Sangathan is based on sanskar. Fifth ‘S’ is satsang, which begins from home. Praying together is satsang. Families which eat together, pray together always stay together. To make a healthy nation we need five S and it should start from us. On practicing five ‘S’ one ‘S’ will follow that is shanti—that brings together.
An exhibition showcasing various service work was also organised. Around 300 people participated in the Sangamam. Shri Ponnuswamy, chairman of the Reception Committee welcomed the gathering.

SJM Reviews Malnutrition Programme in Rajasthan

New Delhi: Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has urged the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Smt Vasundhra Raje to review the ongoing programmes for managing the Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, SJM national co-convener Dr Ashwani Mahajan said the issue of child under nutrition is a deep-rooted and
multi-dimensional problem. It needs sustainable solutions. “Our concern is that current drive in Rajasthan focuses on treatment only. Use of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in SAM children is misleading, misguided and undermines local bio-diverse and sustainable food cultures. At the same time its cost is prohibitive,” Dr Mahajan said in the letter.
The Government of Rajasthan has implemented a CMAM programme i.e. Community Management of Acute Malnutrition, with provision of medical nutrition therapy which is nothing but RUTF. The SJM said the available scientific evidence does not support the use of RUTF in SAM. He further said: “The RUTF or home augmented food for children with SAM is temporarily helpful in nutritional rehabilitation under proper supervision and support. However, RUTF may not benefit a common household in
developing appropriate food habits for children as against home augmented food.” On August 28, the Ministry of Women and Child Development also issued a memo to the States making it clear that use of RUTF for SAM is not an accepted policy of Government of India.    n
