Coming from South China through Burma in 1228 Sui-Ka-Pha established glorious Ahom Dynasty, which ruled Asom for 600 years. Asom CM vows

to follow his ideals for strengthening unity and
brotherhood amongst all the communities and to
conserve entire Charaideo site

Guwahati: Asom remembered Swargadeo Sau-Lung-Sui-Ka-Pha, the architect of glorious Ahom Dynasty, on the occasion of Asom Divas on December 2. Asom Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the people in paying rich tribute to Sui-Ka-Pha in a centrally organised function at Charaideo Moidam in eastern part of the State.
Sui-Ka-Pha arrived from South China through Burma in 1228 to add the history of Asom with vigour, harmony and progressiveness. The Ahom Dynasty ruled Asom for six hundred years till it was invaded by Burmese forces in early nineteen century. Finally, the Burmese were thrown away by the British colonial establishment and Asom went under its territory through the historic Yandabu Agreement.
At many places, people from all walks of life thronged and paid tribute to the great Ahom king, who came down from a Chinese province through a hilly terrain of Patkai to settle the 600 year long Ahom Kingdom in Asom. The
occasion began with the puja offering to the first Asomese who happened to be the descendent of the God Khunlung.
Stating that Sui-Ka-Pha set the tone for a unified, strong and prosperous Asom, Shri Sonowal vowed to follow his ideals for expediting and
strengthening unity and brotherhood  amongst all communities of the State. He said Swargadeo followed the motto of compassion for all, which was the cornerstone of great Ahom Dynasty. Terming Sui-Ka-Pha as a great example of human victory against odds, Shri Sonowal asserted that his government would march ahead taking all
communities into confidence for
realising its development agenda. He also pointed out that the significance of Charaideo and its importance to the State polity has not fully been realised.
Shri Sonowal vowed to protect the site which has already been placed in the probable list of World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. “Charaideo will be protected against the ravages of time and the government will conserve the entire area along with a well
thought-out plan to make the location as one of the most sought after tourist
destinations,” he stated.
Asom’s well known historian Dr Rajen Saikia lauded the State
government’s initiative to hold the central celebration at Charaideo and hoped that it would send a meaningful message to the entire Asomese community. He also recalled   the contribution of legendary historian Dr Surjya Kumar Bhuyan for bringing the   Moidams of Charaideo into limelight and advocated for in-depth research on the route travelled by Sui-Ka-Pha from Yunnan province of China.
Siu-Ka-Pha, instead of introducing his mother tongue Tai on the vanquished people and turning Mung-Dun-Sun-Kham (Asom) into a Tai state, he took up the common language of the Morans, Chutiyas, Borahis, Kacharis, etc. which was nothing but Asomese.    — NJ Thakuria
