The Muslim Personal Law Board is befooling people when it says that the Personal Law has a divine sanction as it emanates from the Quran. There is absolutely no sanction to triple talaq in Quran. And there is no support to unbridled polygamy. These are the two most important core issues appertaining the Personal Law. On the other hand, the Islamic Criminal Law has an unequivocal divine sanction. Quran (5:38) asks for cutting off of both hands of a thief, male or female. Similarly, verse 24:2 lays down 100 lashes to one who fornicates, male or female. The Quranic Penal Code is found enshrined on other matters elsewhere too. In India, Muslim Criminal/Penal Laws do not apply even though the same are there in black and white in the holy book. While most of the Personal Law is not Allah's, but mullah's dictate; the Penal Law is absolutely divine. Still, the Muslim Personal Law Board (MPLB) has never demanded imposition of the same; has never raised its voice in favour of cutting off of a Muslim thief's hands or whipping of fornicators with 100 lashes et al. This convenient opportunism that the Board follows ought to be exposed.

Bravo  Modi
I appreciate the statement of the Prime Minister Shri Modi in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh  that the surgical strikes are on the pattern of the Israeli action to deal with the terrorism. We need to follow Israel pattern to solve the  Kashmir problem. Israel once suggested that the ex-service men should be settled in Kashmir. But we can’t do so owing to the Article 370 of our Constitution.I am happy that there is a discussion on the problem of Muslims having three or four wives and the concept of triple talaq. There must be a Uniform Civil Code.  Now is the time to do so. The Government should bring a Bill in the Parliament on this subject after consulting the various parties. In this way one of the three promises made by the BJP/RSS would be fulfilled. We hope  that the other issues i.e. Building a Ram Temple in Ayodhyaya and Removing of Article 370 from our Constitution would also be soon fulfilled.

Tree Plantation
(Apana Sansthan, October 9); This refers to the news report in ‘News Round Up’ page of Organiser  that Apana Sansthan has planted three lakh saplings and the  ‘Surya Foundation’ is  heading for planting 25 lakh saplings. It gave me immense pleasure to go through this news report. The most important part here is that the awareness among people of trees and their role in maintaining the environment. Sustaining trees will avoid disasters such as  landslides, floods, climate change and drought, all together under one roof. Trees would induce rains, maintain micro-climate and conserve water.  Though we appreciate planting lakhs of saplings, a bigger responsibility lies by taking care of them and watering them regularly.

Clean the Surrounding
The rise of chikungunya, dengue and Japanese encephalitis is placing a heavy burden on the health infrastructure in the country. There are no
vaccines or proven medical
treatments available to cure these
diseases. Inadequate sanitation and poor waste disposal services contribute to these diseases. The best answer to prevent these diseases is to create a clean surrounding and use effective household in insecticidal products for personal protection against mosquitoes. Our cities need to be clean and hygienic.

Security First
The surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control invited applause from all the sections of the society, but the demand for proof by some politicians is unwarranted. There is no need for the Government to give proof about the surgical strike as it would endanger the Indian Army as well as the security of the country.

Powerful but Precise
(Powerful but Precise, October 9); This refers to the editorial in Organiser titled ‘Powerful but Precise’. The surgical strike has proved that our defence forces and intelligence can achieve unimaginable achievements if allowed to function independently. In a democratic set up criticism is expected but it would have been better if we would have questioned why such strike was not made when two jidhadis were allowed to escape from Kandahar to Pakistan in a jeep.  The Indian Air Force should have bombed the jeep on way to Kandahar to Pakistan, once the passengers of IC 814 were taken care of.  We will no doubt will never say that those passengers should have been sacrificed, but have to admit we failed somewhere. Criticism of surgical strike was expected from our heavy weight political opponents, since they have a habit of criticising whatever Modi government does—but I feel sorry that evidence of such action was demanded even after press brief of DGMO.   This hurts the sentiments of    soldiers/intelligence officers who have put their lives to danger for them.  The Defence Forces have no option but to ignore such uncalled demands of the political leaders who can request Nawaz Sharif for Islamic vote/support in India. This surgical strike also gives an opportunity to our executive and
judiciary to draw a strategy and say goodbye to slow trial and ensure speedy trial to Islamic jihadis.  To prove on this front, judiciary would have to say goodbye to corruption . It would  have to see that Rachna Tewari Lakhanpals are not allowed to continue in judiciary.

What Pains Me a Lot

When Sun of freedom rose in Mother India, I as a boy used to listen to and enjoy speeches of Shri C  Rajagopalachari, the first Governor-General of Free India and the great freedom fighter. He used to inspire the people of India: “Now that you are free, leave your ‘slavish habits’ and enjoy the air of freedom. It is better to be poor than to become a thief. Give credit where it is due. Leave the habit of a ‘slavish race’ of not to give credit where it is due.”    Surely, when Modiji,  a great and valiant son of Mother India who is a man of high integrity, self sacrificing, truthful and a great statesman, who has left an imprint of his deep wisdom by his straight attack on corruption and terrorism and by spreading the message of peace throughout the world is vehemently criticised by some politicians of much lower stature and lesser experience, I recall the words of Rajaji and feel a great pain that they are trying to belittle a great hero of the land when he needs to be bucked up for such a commendable work.
