News Round-up : Finally, Temple Doors Opened for SCs

It was a historic day for the people of Scheduled Castes in Jakkuva Village under Mentada Mandal of Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh on September 5. The people who were denied entry into temple by some people on May 3, 2014 entered into the temple with leading saints and performed puja happily.
Deeply pained over the incident in 2014, the Samajik Samarasata Vedika (SSV) formed a committee to investigate into the matter. The committee visited the village on May 29, 2014 and a detailed report was submitted to the Government. It also staged a protest in front of the District Collector’s Office on June 23, 2014 demanding justice to Dalits. During the last two years, the Vedika supported the SC’s to get benefits from the Government. Now involving the leaders of various parties including the TDP, BJP and YSRC, the SSV ensured the entry of Dalits into Ram Temple on September 5.
Under the leadership of Swami Srinivasananda, head of North Andhra Sadhu Parishad, the people of SC community along with other villagers entered the mandir chanting Jai Sri Ram. Later, the statues of Mahatma Buddha, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr Ambedkar were unveiled by zonal convener of Samarasata Vedika Shri K Shyam Prasad, Pujya Shri Srinivasananda Swami, RSS Kshetra Karyavah Shri Dusi Rama Krishna and MLC Shri Somu Veerraju.
Shri Dulam Busi Raju presided over the function. Shri Subbarao and Jagan Mohan Reddy who funded the statues and Shri Narendra Udayaar for having sculpted the statues were felicitated. After the programme all the caste leaders along with Swamiji went to have meals in different families of the SC colony.

Hyderabad: Vijnana Bharati organised a two day national workshop at Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) from August 29 to 30. The workshop aimed at bringing various agencies and experts from different fields related to habitat and climate change on single platform to discuss holistically about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change and India’s response for Habitat III, an upcoming global summit to be held in Quito, Ecuador from October 17 to 20 October 2016.
National secretary of Vijnana Bharati Shri Jayant Sahasrabuddhe explained the background of the conference and further actions that the contemporary global thinking has influenced to a great extent by development in last two years. At Habitat III, the international community is likely to agree upon the ‘New Urban Agenda’ and that outcome document will lay the ground work for policies and approaches that will extend and impact into the future. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA) will represent India at Habitat III and is mandated to present our ‘country-response’.
Vigyana Bharati through its initiative of ‘Habitat Lab’ observed that streamlining the ‘country response’ with ‘India-centric implementation of SDGs and Climate Actions’ is a steep challenge. It believes that it can be met only through bringing multiple stakeholders and different agencies of government on one platform. Niti Ayog member Dr Saraswat stressed on eliminating the gray areas of blue economy and need for prioritisation of essential needs of coastal belts for an effective human habitats. Director of INCOIS Shri Sathish Shenoy, secretary of Vijnana Bharati Shri Vivek Pai, research officer at Habitat Lab Mumbai Shri Mayuresh and scientists working in INCOIS, IIT Hyderabad, Ocean studies also participated in the discussion.   

Ekal to expand presence in 5,000
villages of Nepal

Pokhra: The Annual Volunteers' Conference of Ekal Nepal was held in Pokhra from August 12 to 15. The Conference was attended by about 220 Ekal Sevavrati Karyakartas from all over Nepal. The Nagar Sangathan was represented by 62 supporters and their family members from Europe, Gulf and India, notably among them were Shri Ramesh Jain from Germany, Shri Bitthal Maheshwari from Italy, Shri Anil Puri from UK, Shri Mahendra Derewala from Jaipur, Shri Mahesh Dev Bhai from Gulf and Shri Hitesh Bhai from Mumbai. Shri Shyam Gupt, Shri Bajrang Bagra, Shri Sneh Pal Singh and Shri Ravidev Gupta from Ekal Abhiyan also graced the occasion.
A meeting was also organised with the visiting supporters and local citizens of Pokhra discussing various aspects and growth plans of Ekal working in Nepal. It was planned to enhance Ekal presence from 2,100 villages presently to 5,000 villages in next 5 years. The supporters from outside Nepal visited three different Ekal Vidyalayas in Anchal.          

Vidya Bharati workshop on yoga

New Delhi: Vidya Bharati in association with the Union Ministry of Culture on August 31 organised a workshop on ‘Yoga and its role in healthy human life’ at Mahashaya Chunilal Saraswati Bal Mandir school. About 700 students participated in the workshop.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shri Fagan Singh Kulaste stressed on the importance of Yoga for well being and upliftment of the individual and society. Yoga instructor Shri Rajesh emphasised the need of yoga for maintaining a sound physical, mental and spiritual health. Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Shyam Sharma urged the students to devote themselves to the causes of Yoga, clean India movement and a corruption-free country. Former chairman of Haj Committee Shri Tanvir Ahmad read out a congratulatory message of Vice President of India Shri Hamid Ansari who stressed on the need to practice of Yoga in daily life as it is a set of physical mental and spiritual practices. He said, if followed in a disciplined manner, it could
rejuvenate the mind, body and soul of a person. It is a science, not a dogma. It helps improve the levels of fitness and the overall health profile. Vidya Bharati national secretary Shri Hemchandra spoke at the concluding ceremony.                               

Novel way to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha

Chennai: For decades, installation of temporary Vinayaka idols was smooth in Chennai and Tamil Nadu. But this year the Chennai City Police are on rampage against installation of the idols. Police went to the places where idols were to be installed and demolished the sheds and wooden platform on which idols were to be installed. The policemen also threatened the office bearers and committee members of Vinayaka Committee in many areas.
In one such incident, the parents of the members and office bearers of the Committee including women were not spared, beaten badly till they started bleeding from nose, mouth and head. At many places, office bearers and Committee members were detained in police stations for several hours and were made to sign the printed forms stating that they would not indulge in installation of Vinayaka idols. At many places, police removed the installed Vinayaka idols and took them to police station. To protest against the police action, Hindu Munnani organised prayers in the city at all the places where the idols were installed praying Lord Ganesha to take necessary action against the Tamil Nadu Government.

Atul Kothari felicitated

Panchkula: Forum of Senior Citizens in Education felicitated national co-convener of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas Shri Atul Kothari on September 5 for his outstanding contribution in promoting Indianness in the education. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula Hema Sharma, Deputy Chairman of Haryana Sahitya Academy and former Editor of Tribune Shri Radhe Shyam Sharma were also present on the occasion. Five other veteran educationists and toppers in public examinations conducted by CBSE and HBSE were also honoured on the occasion. On this occasion Shri Atul Kothari highlighted the issues involved in New Education Policy, which he hoped will be more value-based in nature. He said much could be achieved in the country if the experience of seniors works with the courage of youth. Shri Radhe Shyam Sharma said formation of character is the basis of national character.      

Feeling the Blindness

Jaipur: In order to sensitise the people about the problems faced by visually challenged people, a group of medical students belonging to SMS Medical College on September 6 organised Feel Blindness Rally. The rally was led by three visually challenged people and rest of the people by tying cloth on their eyes
followed them. The objective of the rally was to make the people feel what the blind people have to suffer without vision. The rally began from SMS Medical College and passing through JK Lone Hospital concluded back on the same venue. Dr US Agrawal, Principal and Examination Controller of SMS Medical College was the chief guest on the occasion. Leaders of Saksham, medical students and resident doctors participated in the rally, which was part of the nationwide campaign by Saksham to sensitise people about cornea  blindness.    

Felicitation of an innovative teacher

New Delhi: Dr Rakesh Chaturvedi of Shriji Baba Saraswati Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School Mathura was felicitated by Union Minister of State for HRD Shri Upendra Kushwaha for his outstanding contribution in the field of education. The award consists of a cheque of Rs 50,000, a shawl, citation and memento. A total of 33 teachers and principals from different schools of the country were felicitated at the function held at Civic Centre in New Delhi on September 3.
Apart from teaching in the school, Dr Chaturvedi has also been active in social activities like organising blood donation camps, distributing study material to needy students, generating awareness about cleanliness in villages and also tree plantation. He has been teaching in Saraswati Vidya Mandir for the last 28 years. He is known for innovations in the field of education. CBSE Chairman Shri RK Chaturvedi was also present at the function.

Sewa project in the memory of Ashok Singhal

Khatima: VHP working president Dr Pravin Togadia inaugurated a motor driving training centre and  an ambulance service in Khatima, Uttarahand, recently. The ambulance is part of the India Health Line launched by the VHP to provide specialist and quality health services to the people all over the country. He stressed the need to ensure security, prosperity and respect to the Hindu society. He appealed to the people not to sell the cows to the butchers rather earn good money from their urine and dung. He said 105 types of products are made in a Goshala of Maharashtra. He said the annual turnover of the cow based products is over 25 crore. If the Hindu society actively take it up it can easily reach up to Rs 25,000 crore. He pointed out that over 10,000 doctors have joined the India Healthline across the country. They treat free of cost at least one needy patient every day. He said the day number of such doctors reaches up to ten lakh, no Hindu will be deprived of the medical facilities.

celebrates Balram Jayanti

Jaipur: Rajasthan unit of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh organised a procession to celebrate Balram Jayanti on September 7. A large number of farmers and villagers joined the procession. It began at 11 am and passing through various localities concluded at Jotadawala Paramsukhdas Maharaj Ashram, where it converted into a function. There were 20 tableaux displaying various aspects of Indian village life. The farmers who have opted for organic farming and meritorious students were felicitated at the function. ‘Youth need to fix the target of life’

Kurukshetra: RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah Sewa Pramukh Shri Gunwant Singh Kothari called upon the youth to fix a target in life and then make all efforts to materialise that target. “The Indian youth have tremendous potential. But that potential needs to be rekindled in right perspective,” Shri Kothari said while addressing a gathering of youth at a workshop organised by the Youth and Sewa Foundation.
On this occasion Dr Sukumar, national organising secretary of Saksham, the leading organisation dedicated to the cause of differently abled people, applauded the role being played by youth in all the sectors. He urged them to spare some time for the society also. “The nation cannot be prosperous and world leader until even a single countrymen is deprived. Every citizen has to ensure that nobody in our vicinity is deprived. A minor help can change the life of an individual, he said.
Different issues were discussed in five sessions of the workshop. In the first session, they were apprised of the concept of service and in other sessions they shared their experience about sewa activities. Some people who have been rendering exemplary services also shared their experience.
