Presently having two crore members it aims to enroll 48 crore members in the coming years
New Delhi: Country’s largest labour organisation, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), turned 62 on July 23. Countrywide closing ceremonies of the completion of 60th year were held on July 23 with impressive functions at more than 600 places. The central leaders of BMS attended big programmes at 86 places on the day. These functions, held in major cities, witnessed the gathering ranging from 1,000 to 15,000 people. National organising secretary Shri KC Mishra addressed over 15,000 people in Odisha despite heavy rains. General secretary Shri Virjesh Upadhyaya was in Hyderabad where more than 10,000 people participated. Former national president Shri CK Sajinarayan was in Chennai where a big procession was taken out. Joint organising secretary Shri B Surendran was in Ranchi. National president Shri Baijnath Rai was in Haridwar. National vice president Shri Hiranmaya Pandya addressed huge gathering at Sawai Mansingh Hospital Auditorium.
The main function, organised in Haridwar, was addressed by Swami Avadheshananda Giri Maharaj. Two more volumes (5th and 6th) of Dattopant Thengadi Jeevan Darshan were also released by him. He described the BMS as a movement for resurgence of India, as it works for empowering poorest of the poor. He also called the BMS work as a campaign for cultural awakening of Bharat. About Dattopant Thengadiji, he said he did not see Chanakya in his life, but in Thengadiji he could see Chanakya in this modern age. “Chanakya made Chandragupt for resurgence of Bharat while Thengadiji made BMS for resurgence of modern Bharat,” he said. However, he reminded the BMS to achieve the target of enrolling 48 crore workers because today it has only two crore members.
Swami Satyamitrananda Giri could not attend the function as he was out of station. But he sent a recorded video message, which was played before the audience. In that message he said he is deeply impressed by the three great personalities—Shri Guruji, Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya and Dattopant Thengadiji—in modern India, because they never thought for themselves but only for the people and the nation. He said if Thengadiji was not there, perhaps there would not have been an alternative model for labourers in the country. The entire life of Thengadiji was full of inspirations at every step. Shri Baijnath Rai spoke about the functioning of the BMS. Shri Amarnath Dogra, writer of Dattopant Thengadi Jeevan Darshan, and BMS north zone organising secretary Shri Pawan Kumar were also present in Haridwar.
The 60th year celebration had began on July 23, 2015 with hoisting one crore BMS flags on one crore houses across the country. Another major initiative taken during the year was plantation of 60 lakh saplings all over the country. Cycle and scooter marches were taken out at more than 550 district headquarters. In Delhi alone 130 functions were held witnessing from 32 to 700 people.
During this year, six volumes of Dattopant Thengadi Jeevan Darshan were published. Work on rest of the volumes is going on. Another major initiative is that the BMS has digitalised 100 books of Thengadiji and they will be released in second week of August. A total 300 books are to be degitalised under this project.
“There is not a single district in the country where the BMS does not have any of the registered union. We have registered unions in about 600 districts. However, we still do not have work in Daman and Diu and Sikkim. The reason of not registering any union in Sikkim is that the State does not have a law to register the trade unions. But we are in the process to cover Daman and Diu shortly,” said Shri Pawan Kumar. He pointed out that functions were held in all states of north-east also.
