Prof Aziz Tharuvana of Farooq College, Kozhikode, has been arrested for raping a teenage Dalit girl. Aziz is a writer and left fellow traveller. He was appointed as a Sub Editor in Kerala Bhasha Institute during the previous CPM-led LDF regime. The complainant, the Dalit girl, is a degree student in Farooq College. She said in her statement given to the police that she was raped during April-May, 2015. Aziz is reported to have raped the girl several times after promising to marry her. Later he threatened her that he would disclose the secret. It paved the way for further rapes. But, Aziz was already a married man. As soon as the girl lodged the complaint Aziz went underground. At last, he surrendered before the police during the wee hours of July 25. It has also been reported that Aziz tried to flee the country and settle in Gulf. Police are reported to have imposed IPC 376 (rape) and Section 31 (12) or the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on Aziz.
Aziz is a pro-Left and pro-Islam activist. He is known for his anti-Hindutva stands. Recently he was in the news for criticising Ramayana. He is alleged to have propagated that Rama of Adhyatma Ramayana is the symbol of caste Hindus. Reports from Kozhikode suggest his links with Jamaat-e-Islami.
Aziz’s rape case has assumed significance in the wake of recent Love Jihad incidents in Kerala. ABVP girls staged a dharna demanding strict legal actions against Aziz. They demanded the intervention of Women’s Rights Commission. They blasted the biased stand of the media in this matter.

A young Muslim writer and assistant director for several successful Malayalam movies P Jimshar has been attacked by a group of Islamic fundamentalists for allegedly insulting ‘Allah’ in his new book. The ‘crime’ P Jimshar committed was, he wrote a book under the title: “Padachonte Chithrapradarshanam!” Chithrapradarshanam means exhibition of pictures. Fair enough. But, Padachon means ‘creator.’ It is an Islamised Malayalam terminology. Malayali Muslims use that word to address God! The book is expected to be released on August 5. In another words it is highly unlikely for the attackers to read any page of it till today.  But, the very word ‘padachon’ provoked them and Jimshar is hospitalized due to damage to his vertebra. The assailants abandoned him in the road when he miserably fell down. Jimshar told the police that the attack was premeditated.

Catholic Forumlashes out against Muslim Educationist

The Indian Catholic Forum president Adv Melbin Mathew Pandakkal has lashed out against the President of Muslim Educational Society, Dr Fazal Gafoor for the derogatory words he had used against Cardinal Mar Joseph Alanchery in a Television discussion the other day. Adv Melbin Mathew  has called for unconditional apology from Dr Fasal Gafoor failing which the Indian Catholic Forum would go for legal measures against  him. While speaking to Organiser ,Adv Melbin Mathew said, “The statement by a person like Dr Fasal Gafoor, Chairman of a major Muslim organisation like MES would lead to communal enmity leading to several social issues between the communities”.
Cardinal Alanchery had welcomed the move of the Uniform Civil code mooted by the Union government and had said that this has to be further studied. In a discussion on the subject in a popular Malayalam news Chanel, Dr Fazal Gafoor has said that some Bishops and Chrisitan priests are now licking the boot of the Prime Minister.
It may be recalled that Dr Fazal Gafoor has been in the news for lashing out against the Hindu organisation leaders like NSS general secretary Sukumaran Nair and SNDP yogam General secretary Velapally Natesan. The words used by Dr Gafoor in the televison channels have always been provocative and would lead to fissures among the communities. A highly qualified Neuro Surgeon, Dr Fasal Gafoor has always been in the news for wrong reasons.
