Kochi: Sanskrit Promotion Foundation, Kochi in association with Samskrit Samvardhan Pratishthan, New Delhi, conducted a day-long workshop on “Vision and Road Map for Development of Sanskrit” on May 2. Noted Sanskrit scholar and Director of Samskrit Samvardhan Pratishthan Dr Chand Kiran Saluja while speaking at the workshop said the whole world has recognised the richness of Sanskrit. Hence, it is no more an old or dead language, but a language of global knowledge. Dr P Nandakumar, national general secretary of Vishwa Samskrita Pratishthan, Dr G Gangadharan Nair, former dean of Sanskrit University, Kalati, Dr MV Nateshan, Professor, Sanskrit University, Kalati, Dr Dharmman Atatt, M Parameshwaran, TK Santosh Kumar and Dr K Unnikrishnan also spoke. About 60 delegates participated in the workshop. Sanskrit teachers, professors, students, researchers and Sanskrit lovers were among them Dr MV Nateshan informed that the Union HRD Ministry appointed a 13-member committee in November 2015 under the chairmanship N Gopala Swamy, Chancellor of Rashtriya Samskrita Vidyapeeth and former Chairman of Central Election Commission. The Committee has been assigned to prepare a vision document for propagation of Sanskrit in next ten years. T Satisan
NMO for increase in retirement age to 65
New Delhi: National Executive of the National Medicos Organisation (NMO) has demanded to raise the retirement age of doctors to 65 years in Government Service, public sector organisations, medical colleges and Central Medical Institutes. NMO said this step would help in improving availability of experienced doctors for new medical colleges and would also help in improving the doctor/patients ratio for effective implementation of planned healthcare programmes. The Executive also complimented Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda for implementing the Supreme Court directive on NEET for medical and dental admission.
Sahakar Bharati, the country’s leading organisation dedicated to the cause of cooperative sector told Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Dr Raghuram Rajan that privatisation of cooperative banking sector is no solution to the constraints and challenges being faced by these Banks. Need of the hour is legal and financial empowerment of the Sector for all round growth.
“We feel the Cooperative Banking Sector should equally benefit from the changes that are being ushered in the Financial and Banking Sector so that it can play a major role in financial inclusion to achieve rapid, equitable and sustainable growth,” said Sahakar Bharati patron Shri Satish Marathe in a letter written to Dr Rajan on May 9.
Sahakar Bharati, which has units in over 400 districts of the country and represent more than 20,000 cooperatives from all sectors, appealed to him to initiate review of the working of the UCBs, DCCs and State Co Op Banks and put in place a Vision Document along with a roadmap for growth and development of the Cooperative Banking Sector.
Based on the experience of the last few years, there is also a need to review and recommend modifications to the present provisions of the MOUs between the RBI/NABARD and the State Governments to improve governance and to reduce external intervention in the working of the Cooperative Banks.
JNU unit of Ambedkar Youth Forum organised a public talk on May 17 on the issue of “Sustainable Development and Swadeshi” at School of Social Science (SSS-I) Auditorium on May 17. Shri Kashmiri Lala, national organiser of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) was the main speaker. Prof. Girish Nath Jha presided over while Prof. Uttam K Pati was the Chief Guest.
Shri Kashmirilal explained the notion of sustainable development. He mentioned how the idea of Indian notion of development is better than the western notion of environmental exploitation and development. He also focused on the relevance of Swadeshi movement in India now.
Prof. Uttam K Pati, Dean of School of Biotechnology in JNU, said the Indian economic system is strongly associated with the idea of swadeshi. He focused on environmental friendly scientific temper and innovations based development of India. Prof. Girish Nath Jha, chairperson of Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, spoke on the importance of Sanskrit in relation to the language usage and development of computer technology. He emphasised that local Indian languages and the Indian classical language (Sanskrit) have strong affinity towards each other but these days interruption of English as the medium of translation has misguided the Indian knowledge production system. n
Kolkata: Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh in association with the Vishwa Bharati University organised a seminar in Kolkata on April 24. The topic of the Seminar was “Teacher: Past and Present”. Speaking at the seminar RSS Sahsarkaryavah Dr Krishna Gopal said the teachers try to make a good citizen out of a child. The present system of education provides information but fails to train them to face the challenges of life. A teacher in India has been since ages trying to make a child a good human being imparting him/her knowledge of everything around us, he said. Jaipur: Jaipur unit of Sewa Bharati organised mass marriage of all communities on May 14. A total of 51 pairs belonging to 19 castes tied the knot. During the last six years, the Sewa Bharati has performed many such ceremonies where a total of 992 pairs tied the knot. Similar functions were organised in Bhawani Mandi on May 15 and Lakheri (Bundi) on May 20. Many people from Jaipur City were present at the function to bless the newly wedded couples. n

Speaking on the occasion RSS Akhil Bharatiya Gram Vikas Pramukh Dr Dinesh said village development is the responsibility of all and this work is not possible by only depending upon the government, rather the whole society has to contribute actively. Former chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission Dr Mahesh Sharma applauded the efforts of village development in the form of Pravasi Panchayat, Gramotsava, Gramodaya, etc. He said if the people of village settled in cities reconnect to their roots and start joining any developmental activity there, a big change can take place. RSS homage to Nirankari BabaRSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat and Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi paid tribute to fourth guru of Nirankari Mission Baba Hardev Singh, who passed away in a road accident in Canada. The RSS described his sudden demise as a highly painful incident for spiritual world. “The life of Baba has been very sensitive to the society and spirituality. His contribution in propagating spirituality all over the world will be remembered. He not only worked for welfare of the mankind through spirituality and sewa activities but also propagated the spirituality and Indian culture to various countries of the world through Sant Nirankari Mission. He also helped crores of his followers and ordinary people of the society. The sewa projects being conducted with his inspiration should maintain the momentum and should not be dumped. The life of Baba will continue to enlighten lakhs of people as a legacy of India’s rich Sangh tradition,” Shri Bhagwat and Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi said in a statement released in Delhi on May 17. It is to be noted that Baba was killed in a road accident in Canada on May 13. The VHP also remembered the contribution of Baba to peace and humanity. n Tribute to Dr Narendra Desai Mumbai: National Vice president of Rashtriya Sewa Bharati Dr Narendra Desai passed away in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest on May 13. He was 71. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Born in Ratnagiri, Dr Desai was a Sangh swayamsevak since his childhood. He came to Mumbai for education and later retired as Head of Pharmacology Department from KEM Hospital. He was also Vibhag Sanghachalak of Parle Vibhag. He joined the Sewa Vibhag in 1996 and held various responsibilities in the RSS Jankalyan Samiti Maharasthra as teasurer and vice president. He held the responsibility of the Samiti as its Karyavah after retirement from the job. He conducted extensive tour in entire Maharashtra and north-eastern states for expanding the Samiti’s work. He was also vice president of Nana Palkakar Smriti Samiti. He was vice president of Rashtriya Sewa Bharati since 2010. n
