Youth congregated on Kozhikkode beach and protested against Fascism by dancing, singing, painting and creating sand sculptures
For the last one year Kerala has been witnessing several self styled ‘progressive’ campaigns against Hindutva, in an attempt to brand it as fascism. But, what Kozhikode beach witnessed on January 13, was again a campaign against fascism, but with a difference. It was Vishwa Manava Sangamam. It was not conducted by any self styled leftist group or somebody who is deadly against anything akin to Hindutva, RSS, BJP, nationalism or Modi. On the other hand, a Facebook Fraternity (FBF) group, with nationalist leanings; noted film maker Ali Akbar and Prof KV Thomas are some among them.
This campaign conducted on Kozhikkode beach assumes historical significance. Youth congregated there and protested against fascism by dancing, singing, painting and creating sand Sculptures. Posters showing fascist attacks around the world were exhibited. It turned the GenNext’s cultural resistance against fascism and sexual anarchy being unleashed by the organisers of Kiss of Love and exposed the pseudo-campaigns launched by anarchists.
Prajeshkumar, one of the organisers of the campaign, told Organiser that the so called leftists are conducting lot of anti-fascist campaigns. But, it is nothing but eyewash. In fact communists’ indulgence in killing in Bharat or anywhere else, intolerance they practise in China, etc. are fascism. Another organiser Abhilash said, the Samgamam was for remembering the people who died in Tiananmen Square in 1989, for the Jews who were butchered by Hitler, for the people killed in two World Wars including the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for Yazidis killed in terror attacks and for all those who were killed in cold blood by Red Terrorists, the communists.
Organisers comented that CPM and religious fundamentalists call Hindu groups fascists. The same people do not allow to install a statue of Thunjath Ezhuthachan, the father of Modern Malayalam language, in Thunjan Parambu in Malappuram district, the birth place of the 16th century scholar. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) always brings one or another hindrance; CPM plays hide and seek and maintains that IUML should be taken into confidence before the statue is installed, hence it still remains a nonstarter. Famous film maker Ali Akbar inaugurated the campaign. He said during the inaugural address, that fascism stems from the arrogant belief that “my religion and my politics alone are right”. Here writers and prominent citizens are all biased in this direction. Prof KV Thomas said, fascism always silences the opposition. Fascism still nurtures the centuries old doctrine that only ‘one lamp post is right’. What we need is the real enlightenment. One should know what the real fascism is.
Shreeshailam Unnikrishnan, Suresh Budha, Vidyasagar Gurumoorthy and Shaji Varavoor spoke on the occasion. Vanvasis from Wynadu performed their tribal dances. Students from Malappuram staged their group dance. Panchami, a III standard student, read out the oath which the entire participants echoed. They were about 400 strong.
While speaking to Organiser filmmaker Ali Akbar claimed that when several so-called anti-fascist campaigns take place, the real fascists are hidden. Real fascists blame others for fascism. They keep on raising the false propaganda like saffronisation, beef, etc. They hide the truth that Kerala renaissance had the spiritual colour. It was spearheaded by Shree Narayana Gurudev and Chattambi Swamiji. Communists raise a false claim that renaissance started in Kerala since they came to power in 1957. They are against anything which is nationalistic; and the alibi is fascism. They opposed Yoga Day. And, now, they organised mass Yoga programme in Kannur! They blame Hindu communalism and at the same time join hands with sorts of fanaticism.
The noted filmmaker said that he knows RSS very well. His connection with RSS dates back to 1992. Those were the days of Poonthura riots in Thiruvananthapuram district. At that time all Muslim families in his area fled the place. But, RSS workers assured him that he could live there sans any fear or hurdle; they would save him and his family. And, they did it. He says, RSS workers came to his rescue when some vested interest groups tried to mess up his shoot schedule and attack him and his crew in Kozhikode a few years back. —T Satisan, Kerala
