States : Bhanu Bhakta Acharya remembered on 201st Birth Anniversary

Pasighat: Nepali community residing in Arunachal Pradesh observed the 201st birth anniversary of legendary Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya who translated Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali. Thousands of people thronged Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang Hall on July 19 to join the celebration organised by Nepali Sanskriti Suraksha Parishad (NSSP), Pasighat unit. Convener of the Parishad Shri Ashok Chaurasia along with local MLA Shri Kaling Moyong and Additional District Magistrate of Pasighat Sri Deepak Shinde inaugurated the celebration.
In his speech Shri Chaurasia described Bhanu Bhakta as not merely a Nepali poet but a universal poet. “By translating Ramayana in Nepali he has done a great job to protect, propagate and preserve the great Hindu culture and heritage in the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal. He protected the Nepali society from Western and church influence,” he said. Shri Kaling Moyong lauded the efforts of the NSSP and appealed all to follow the principles and ideals of Bhanu Bhakta who was a philosopher and great social reformer. He expressed delight at the energy and vigour of the Nepali community. He said the contribution of the great poet would always be engraved in the history. Opining that culture is the identity of a man, he said spiritual development with strong ethics and high morality is the need of the hour and such celebration goes a long way in reviving the community. The young generation should emulate him so that the community regains its glorious era, he added.

Five Maoists surrender in Odisha

MALKANGIRI: Five Maoist cadres surrendered at Malkangiri Police on July 23. They said they decided to quit the CPI (Maoist) outfit after realising that the Red rebels were deviating from their ideology and exploiting poor Vanvasis. They belong to different villages in Kalimela area of the district.
SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said out of the five, State Government has announced Rs 1 lakh reward each for Subba and Soma. A native of Potteru village under Motu police limits, Subba was an armed cadre of the local organising squad (LOS) operating in cut-off region under CPI (Maoist) Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakha Border division. He joined the outfit in 2007 and is suspected to be involved in 23 cases of Maoist violence including burning of EVM machines at Jodamba during General Elections in 2014. Kawasi was a militia member since 2004 and Bhime Madhi was an armed cadre of Kalimela LOS and Central Reorganisation Committee (CRC) since 2006. Natives of Badtekguda village under Kalimela police limits, both were involved in a series of crimes. While Kawasi was involved in killing of two persons here last year and attack on a BSF camp in MPV-21 area, Bhime – a woman cadre – is wanted in Maoist.                   (August 9, 2015 Page 30)

Earlier, Shri Deepak Shinde said “Such occasions should be used as platform to promote brotherhood. Culture and heritage have always been of prime importance in India and therefore we should respect and embrace others’ cultures to take the nation towards peace and prosperity.” He urged the citizens to take preventive measures to contain Dengue Fever on priority. Sharing some tips, he said ‘still there is lack of awareness in the community and people must cooperate with the administration and health authorities in eliminating the breeding grounds of the mosquito by means of good environmental hygiene practices’. Assam General Secretary of NSSP Shri Birendra Rana and East Siang NSSP President Shri AK Rana also spoke on the occasion. Ramayana recitation competition was also held on the occasion.
