Though media has popularised this phenomenon as corporate espionage, the act of trading secrets from the government offices for commercial gains is the case of national crime. Everybody is surprised with this expose except corporate, journalists and bureaucrats. The simple reason is since the days of closed socialist economy, intruding into the government system to pressurise the decisions, was common for these classes.

In the age of open market economy, lobbying and corporate spying each other may be a common practice, but penetrating into government system is the symptom that our mindset is still socialistic. Now many decisions made and reversed by the UPA regime in the last 10 years are also under scanner, as environment, power, telecom, IT and defence were the ministries where decision making process was dubious.

The real issue is not whether the corporate houses used the information to sell or to beat their competitors but of how much the government system has rotten over the period of time and how far it has impacted our economy and security.
