Report: Vivekananda Vision in Action

It’s time to bring Vivekananda vision on education in action said the Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani while releasing the book Proceedings of Vice-Chancellors Conference at the Vivekanada International Foundation on September 8. On the occasion, she made three announcements in the name of Vivekananda: Single Girl child scholarship; Research grant and opening of UGC Centres. She gave many examples through which she explained the importance of women's education.
The book has archived the ideas of Vice-Chancellors of various universities who had assembled in the last years National Vice-Chancellors Conference held on November 16-17. The two day conference was organised to contemplate on the ways of infusion of Swamiji's thought in the contemporary education.
The event was oragnised under the ages of Swami Vivekananda Sardha Shati Samaroh Samiti. There were deliberations on three major points i.e man making and nation building, relevance of Swamiji's teachings in education and application of Swamiji's teaching in present education system.
On the occasion, Aniruddh Deshpande, General Secretary of the Samiti, presented a brief report on the year long activities taken place to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. He also stressed that this conference of Vice-Chancellors was the first of its kind organised by any non-government agency. JK Bajaj who has edited the book said that in future this book will play an important role in defining higher education policies.
The programme was chaired by the Chairman of Sardha Shati Samaroh Samiti and former Secretary General of the Lok Sabha Dr Subhash Kashyap. Besides a large number of educationist, many prominent people graced the occasion. Shreerang Kulkarni conducted proceedings of the function.                                                        —Bureau Report
