News Round-up: Govt should Emulate Shivaji’s Governance—Mohan Bhagwat

NAGPUR: Drawing parallel with the socio-political change brought about by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj four centuries ago, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghachalak, Shri Mohan Bhagwat called upon the society to remain ever vigilant to sustain the positive change which the country has witnessed after the 2014 general elections. He was addressing the valedictory function of 25 days Third Year Sangh Shiksha Varg at Reshambagh grounds here on June 12. Noted Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravishankar was the chief guest. Varg Sarvadhikari and Kashi Prant Sanghchalak Sri Vishwanath Nigam, Varg Karyawah and Malwa Prant Karyawah Sri Prakash Shastri and Nagpur Mahanagar Sanghachalak Dr Dilip Gupta were also present on the dais.

In his electrifying speech exuding confidence and satisfaction over the transformation through ballot, Shri Bhagwat advised the incumbent government to emulate the governance of Chatrapati Shivaji whose government stood on the strong edifice of justice for all, equality, strong discipline, self-esteem and free of any exploitation.
In Shivaji’s personality, the people seeing their dreams getting translated into reality and they accepted him as their own king. Shivaji on his part did not own the kingdom but became a trustee of the faith reposed in him by the people. Similarly, the present government should also act as a trustee of the faith and confidence of the people, Shri Bhagwat said. He added that even after the death of Shivaji, the common man in his kingdom who remained ever vigilant fought with the invaders and not only defeated them but also carried the flag of Bharat beyond Attock in the West.
Clearly stating that RSS does not indulge in ‘Remote Controlling’ Shri Bhagwat said, “We only created conducive atmosphere. We instilled self-esteem in the society and a grand picture of making this country a world leader and teacher. People responded to our call and brought about the change. Now, it is the duty and responsibility of the citizens to make this change stable so that their dreams could be fulfilled in their own life time. For, that the society must remain vigilant,” he said.
Similar aspirations were aroused during the freedom movement and people responded positively to the call participating in the freedom movement. But following Independence, the rulers failed to instill confidence and self-esteem in the society and the society on their part handed over the contract to the rulers. The result was disastrous, he said quoting a few lines from the famous Marathi poet, Suresh Bhat.
The RSS chief said, “the present political change has aroused the aspirations of the people once again. But these aspirations could be fulfilled only when the society was ready for transformation in accordance with the changing time.” “This is not the time to sleep. It is time to remain vigilant to fulfill our dreams,” he added. He called upon the people to create a sensitive society based on the principles of equality, justice and free of exploitation redefining the eternal life values according to the changing times to make Bharat a world leader and teacher of humanity.
Sri Sri Ravishankar called for instilling self-esteem and increasing the level of confidence in the society to realise the bright future of Bharat. He said we have to adopt scientific outlook and instill confidence by honoring our culture and traditions. He said we need to present our religion in its right perspective at the international level once again which could not happen after Swami Vivekananda. For this we need to curb casteism, violence, atrocities against women, and drug abuse and alcohol consumption.
Sri Sri praised the RSS for giving the society both reformers and rulers. He said we are all reformers and reformers have a greater role to play as compared to the rulers. We must strive hard to realise the dream our forefathers visualised to make Bharat prosperous, rich country and a world leader.
This year 716 participants from all the 41 Prants participated in the camp. The participants were allowed to participate after they cleared the screening tests at their respective places. Most of them are working at district or tehsil levels and have experience and association with the RSS or its multi-faceted activities over a period of time.
Maximum number of participants came from central region comprising of Malwa (31), Madhya Bharat (22), Mahakoshal (55) and Chhattisgarh (36), totalling to 144. This is followed by North-West region (79), Western (76), Eastern UP (76), South-Central (72), South (71), Western UP (61), North (56), East (36), North-east (28), and Assam Region (17).
Out of them the number of those who hold the responsibility of Karyawah at their respective places is 303, followed by those who are in charge of physical training (Sharirik Pramukh in RSS parlance) total to 168. There are 65 Pracharaks (full timers) and 38 Vistaraks (Short time Pracharaks). Again maximum of 354 participants have completed their second year training last year and came for the third year training this year.
Professionally speaking there are 147 teachers, 153 students, doctors (6), engineers (14), Pleaders (14), self-employed (91), employees (123), farmers (49), journalists (5), CA (1). Academically there are four Ph D holders, 229 Post graduates, 328 graduates, 77 undergraduates, and 66 SSC/HSSC.
Age group-wise maximum number of participants fall in the age group of 26-30 (185), followed by 166 in 21-25, 149 in 31-35, 139 in 36-40 and 77 in the age group of 18-20.
Malayalam speaking tops the linguistic groups with strength of 51 followed by Telugu (50), Marathi (45), Gujarati and Bengali (25 each), Kannad and Tamil (19 each), Odia (17), Punjabi (10). Besides, there are Banjara (1), Chhattisgarhi (1), Sanketi (1), Santhali (1), Pahadi (3), Konkani (3), Marwari (8), Manipuri (2), Nepali (4), in addition to 431 Hindi speaking swayamsevaks.
The selection criteria was applied to swayamsevaks with a view of creating an army of experienced and capable swayamsevaks who could shoulder more responsibility in their respective areas. This selection is also aimed at qualitative improvement of the participants.
