The Penguin India’s compromise in Delhi Court on February 10 for withdrawal of Wendy Doniger’s controversial book, The Hindus: An Alternative History, is just a milestone in the long battle for restoring the national pride and removing distortions. The global conspiracy is deep-rooted and the Hindus have still to go miles. The Hindus is just one book among many other books which portray Hinduism in very derogatory manner and put a question mark over the patience and tolerance of the Hindus towards the insult of their Gods, Goddesses, ancestors and great personalities.

That Wendy Doniger writes under a global conspiracy targeting the Hindus and Bharat is proved by her another book, On Hinduism. The language used in this book to defame and ridicule the Hindus is even more objectionable. Not only the foreigners even the Indians get confused about their own history after reading it. The book says on page 18: “Vivekananda set himself firmly against all forms of caste distinction and advised people to eat beef.” About Rama’s exile on page 525 Wendy writes, “Rama’s mother, and then Lakshmana, who says, ‘I don’t like this. The king is perverse, old and debauched by pleasure. What would he not say under pressure, mad with passion as he is?”

About the RSS Wendy writes on page 137, “Shortly after Partition, a member of the fundamentalist and anti-Muslim Hindu associations, the RSS, remarked that, since Hindus are, as it well-known, the most tolerant people in the world, they deserve to have the land of India to themselves, and, therefore, the (less tolerant) Muslims should be disenfranchised. On page 137 she again writes: “Here it is perhaps appropriate to recall that it was an RSS man who killed Gandhi.” Wendy has also written some poems ridiculing the Hindus. In one poem on page 580 she writes:

“A Hindu who didn’t like kama

Refused to take off his pajama,

When his bride’s lustful finger

Reached out for his linga

He jumped up and ran home to Mama.”

There are many such other poems in the book. Following are some of the other derogatory passage that Wendy wrote in the Book:

Ancient Hindu texts wisely divide life into three basic stages of life: in the first, you study; in the second, you marry and become a householder; and in the third, you go and live in the forest. (It has similarly been said about dogs that in the first stage, they play; in the second, they eat; and in the third, they sleep). (Page-577)

Jains

“But these Jains, they continued, ‘who are actually Shudras, since they have abandoned the true works of the Puranas, babble things about the Pandavas which are contrary to the smritis.” (Page-515)

About Ramayana

“Rama then pretends to grieve for sita, pretends to fight to get her back, and lies to his brother Lakshmana, who genuinely grieves for Sita.” (Page 532)

“Sita, the wife of Rama, accused her brother-in-law Lakshmana of wanting her for himself.” (Page573)

“One day, when Ravana was full of passion, he saw the celestial courtesan Rambha and went mad with lust for her. She reminded him that she was his daughter-in-law, more precisely the wife of Nalakubara, the son of Ravana’s brother Vaishravana. But Ravana replied, ‘You say you are my daughter-in-law. For those who have but one husband, this argument is valid, but in their world the Gods have established a law said to be eternal, that celestial courtesans have no appointed consorts, nor are the God monogamous.’ Then he raped her.” (Page 535)

About Mahabharata

“But Kunti already had one son, secretly, out of wedlock: when she was still a young girl, she had decided to try out her mantra, just fooling around. The Sun God, Surya, took her seriously; despite her vigorous protests and entreaties, he raped her and afterwards restored her virginity. She gave birth to Karna, whom she abandoned in shame; a charioteer and his wife adopted him and raised him as their own. {1.104; 3.290-294;5.144.1-9}” (Page 539)

“She objected, saying that it is against the law for a woman to have more than one husband, for then there would be promiscuity; moreover, her one husband should have her as a virgin. But Shiva reassured her that a woman is purified every month with her menses and therefore there would be no lapse from dharma in her case, since she had asked repeatedly for a husband. Then she asked him of she could be a virgin again for each act of sexual union, and he granted this, too.” {1.189; 1.1.157} (Page 541)

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh

“The accurate historical account would illustrate the Sangh’s complacency with British rule in the years leading up to Partition.” (Page 144)

About Hindu Gods

“Brahman and Vishnu were arguing, each shouting that he was supreme. In anger, Brahma cursed Vishnu: ‘You will be deluded and your devotees will have the appearance of Brahmins, but they will be against the Vedas and the true path to release. They will be Tantric Brahmins, initiated into the Pancharatra, ever averse to the Vedas, law-books and the proper rituals that give release.” (Page-57)

“Brahma created women in order to delude men. Now women, formerly virtuous, became wicked witches by the will of Brahma, who filled them with wanton desires that they in turn inspired in men. He created anger, and henceforth all creatures were born in the power of desire and anger. Here, as so often in Hindu mythology, women are the root of evil, though in this case, not through their own fault.” (Page 58)

Ayodhya and Gujarat

“These same political and economic factors, inflamed and perhaps manipulated by the rhetoric of religious intolerance, resurfaced to demolish Babur’s Mosque in Ayodhya in 1992, to inspire the killing of Sikhs in Delhi in 1984 and of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002, and to exacerbate the extreme suspicion and hatred.” (Page 138)

Petition seeking US Commission of Inquiry into Hindu religious studies

Deeply hurt over the portrayal of Hinduism in a derogatory manner by Wendy Doniger, protests are being staged across the world. There are reports of protests in the US. An online petition has also been prepared requesting Obama Administration to constitute a Commission of Inquiry into the Hindu religious studies in the US academy. People world over are signing the petition at www.whitehouse.gov. If the petition gets 100,000 signatures by March 14, 2014the White House would review and respond to it. People have also been requested to create and sign similar other petitions requesting Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues.

The protestors say the repeated instances of insulting ‘scholarship’ has couched as‘Hindu studies’ cause tensions in the relationship between two sovereign nations—USA and India. It is time to put an end to this theater of the absurd to sustain US leadership in academia the world-over, the petition added.

Notice to publisher

After forcing Penguin India to withdraw The Hindus: An Alternative History by controversial US writer Wendy Doniger, the Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti served a notice to the publisher of On Hinduism by Doniger. The Samiti wrote a warning letter to Aleph Book Company, an independent publishing firm promoted by Rupa Publications India, demanding to withdraw all the copies of On Hindusim, stop its sale and give in writting that they would not publish the controversial book in any form in future. The notice was served on March 3. However, the same publisher, during a meeting with the Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti leaders last week had agreed to withdraw the book but it refused to give anything in writing. Shri Dina Nath Batra, who led the battle against Doniger’s previous book, said content of On Hinduism are similarly malicious and offending and if the publisher fails to accept their demand they are ready to go to the court. He said Wendy has got published two of her books in India purely in order to defame the Hinduism. He termed it part of an international conspiracy to defame entire India.

Wendy commits crime under US law too

The controversial US writer Wendy Doniger has committed an offence under the US law too. Chapter 43 of the US Penal Code defines harmful material and fix punishment for it. Section 43.24 of the Act saysthat sale, distribution or display of harmful material to minor is an offence. It says a person commits a crime if knowing that the material is harmful, and also knowing that the person is a minor he sells, distributes, exhibits, or possesses for sale, distribution, or exhibition to minor harmful material.
