With the reports of growing infiltration in Keran and Gurez sectors in Jammu and Kashmir,  Gool area of Ramban was on fire following rumours by miscreants that some BSF jawans have insulted the Holy Quran. As the mob of around 1000 people tried to attack the BSF camp, in self defence BSF personnel had to fire in which, 4 of the demonstrators died and 42 others sustained injuries.

Immediately, Ramban SP blaimed BSF for the Incident.  Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress state president Saifuddin Soz made a big hue and cry about human rights violations and condemned the attack. It is clear after the investigation that a police officer incharge of Sangaldhan police post, Mohd Afzal Wani, first opened fire on a political science teacher from the BSF camp, which further led to violent protests that resulted in killing of three others by the security forces. BSF jawans fired in self defence when the angry mob tried to storm into the camp and loot arms and ammunition.

It is time for National Conference and Congress to answer that why they are cornering security forces time and again. Why are they creating breeding grounds for separatists and terrorists? Is it an attempt to create the atmosphere of terror for covering up the governance failure?

Is Omar Abdullah

Responding to this Call?

In an evangelical video, “There's A Storm On the Ocean”,On July 23, Al Qaeda's media arm, As-Sahab, released the English translation of a video statement it had posted earlier in June calling upon Indian Muslims to join the jihad in Syria. Titled, “A Message for the Muslims of India: Why is There No Storm in Your Ocean?”, this video features Maulana Aasim Umar, an Al Qaeda ideologue believed to be based in northwest Pakistan. Speaking in Urdu, Umar vents his frustration regarding the inability of the organisation to recruit Indian Muslims into global jihad. The 11-page statement specifically exhorts the Muslims of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, southern India and Gujarat to “Join the forces of global jihad.”

Omar Abdullah

“It is highly unacceptable to shoot at unarmed protesters just because they were reportedly protesting manhandling of an Imam of their area. There can be no justification or rationalization of this “deplorable” act. This shocking act warrants and demands the severest of condemnation in the strongest possible terms.”, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said.

Saifuddin Soz

State Congress chief Prof Saifuddin Soz said he strongly condemns civilian killings at Gool in Ramban. “I strongly condemn the unfortunate incident, in which, as per official reports, forces have killed four civilians in Ramban. By killing unarmed people, forces have committed a deplorable act and I strongly condemn it,” Prof Soz told Greater Kashmir. “I make a strong plea to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that a judicial probe be ordered immediately. I also request him to call an All Party Meeting, so that recurrence of such human rights violations is stopped completely.”

Who is Javed Iqbal Mattoo?

A Kashmir Police Service (KPS) officer Javed Iqbal Matoo, currently posted as SP Ramban, is once again in the news for making false claims to mislead the probe in the Ramban firing incident, where four civilians were killed and over 40 others injured on July 18. A day after the incident, Matoo claimed in an interview that BSF suddenly opened indiscriminate firing on the protesters gathered outside the BSF camp. He is the same police officer who was suspended by the Omar Abdullah Government in the aftermath of the Shopian rape-cum-murder case in June 2009
