SWADESHI Science Movement, also known as Vigyan Bharati organised third national conference on Innovations in Indian Science, Engineering & Technology in New Delhi in association with the NPL, CSIR-NPL and IARI. More than 300 delegates attended the conference.
Prof. KI Vasu, patron of Vigyan Bharati, elaborated on the activities of the forum the at national level. Dr DP Bhatt, national coordinator, spoke on swadeshi version of innovation and creativity in science, engineering and technology, highlighting the forum’s fundamental intensions towards not only for the build-up of a national mass movement but also by using Hindi as a technical language for communication to bring out science as a mass commodity without opposing English towards attaining self-sufficiency and national re-construction. Further, revamping of R&D institutions in the country has been considered the need of the hour and an important area for exploration, wherein the known gaps in the linkages between the scientists and the industrialists in terms of research utility have become quite a general phenomena.
Around 225 papers both oral and poster besides invited discourses were presented at the conference. Animal sciences along with the specific reference to Kamdhenu Krishi Tantra was one of the focus in the deliberations. Prof Krishan Lal, president of Indian National Science Academy was the chief guest at the inaugural session.
Dr HS Gupta, Director, IARI presided over the function.
At the valedictory function, selected Puraskars were bestowed to few nationalistic persons through Prof Deepak Pental, former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University and Member of SAC-C, GOI. Dr N Palaniswamy, chief scientist of CECRI, Karaikudi was awarded with Swadeshi Vigyan Puraskar 2013. He has had the distinction of performing innovations on various corrosion protection measures in different important applications of national importance during three decades of R&D service. Arya Bhatt Puraskars were presented to Dr Rita Kumar, CSIR-IGIB and Smt Seema Chopra, IARI for their immense contributions in the area of environmental biotechnology, indigenous technology development and IPR leveraging and popularisation of ancient Indian wisdom and Science writings in Hindi, respectively. Arya Bhatt Sammans were also bestowed to some. (FOC)
