$img_titleBJP national general secretary and former Union Minister Vijay Goel has been appointed new president of Delhi Pradesh BJP. He replaced Shri Vijendra Gupta, who completed his term after attaining the office in May 2010. This appointment is very important as the Assembly polls in Delhi are scheduled to be held in November this year.

“Presently, Delhi faces enormous problems like water, electricity; law and order, traffic, etc, hence my first priority will be fighting for the rights of the people of Delhi and to provide them with facilities and amenities they deserve,” Shri Goel told Organiser.

An alumnus of Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce, Shri Vijay Goel comes from a traditional Haryanvi family.

His father Shri Charti Lal Goel, a leading taxation lawyer, served as Speaker of Delhi Assembly. Shri Goel actively participated in student’s politics as student leader and held office of Delhi University’s Students Union (DUSU) president in 1977-78. He became DUSU president after Arun Jaitley, the current Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He was Member of Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms in 11th, 12th & 13th Lok Sabha from Sadar and Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituencies.

During Atal Behari Vajpayee”s Government, he was entrusted with responsibilities of several ministries in the capacity of the Minister of State. As Union Sports Minister, he made a successful pitch to bring the Commonwealth Games to India that was held in Capital in 2010. He was general secretary in-charge of Assam during Nitin Gadkari’s tenure as the BJP chief. He has also held the charge of Haryana.

Soon after assuming the charge of state president Shri Goel met party’s senior leaders including Shri Lal Krishna Advani, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri Arun Jaitley, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Shri Madan Lal Khurana to seek their blessings.

Calling upon the party workers to fight against Congress misrule, Shri Goel said the trust which the people had given to the Congress has not been fulfilled by the Congress Government. Congress Government has betrayed the people. Describing in details about the pathetic conditions of Delhi and the failures and misrule of the Government, he said the Congress Government is acting against the Constitution and is involved in corruption and despotism. It is not concerned about the people of Delhi. The Chief Minister wants to mislead the people of Delhi by false promises and hollow slogans. But the people have understood the reality.  Congress will have to go. The enthusiasm of the workers showed that the BJP will hammer the last nail in the coffins of Congress.
