“THE happenings in the recent past in our country underline the fact that values like respect for womanhood and sensitivity towards all are being eroded fast. There is an express need to restore and re-inculcate these values to bring about the desired change in societal behaviour”, observed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat here on January 4, 2013.
Shri Bhagwat was speaking at a function after releasing a Marathi book Manachya khol talatun (From the Depths of Mind) written by noted psychiatrist Dr Pallavi
Joshi-Gaikwad. Swamini Mangalananda of Chinmay Mission presided over the function. Noted pediatrician Dr Dr Shrikant Chorghade was the guest of honour on this occasion. Rasika Kanhere of Mangesh Prakashan that published the book was also present.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda and stories from the ancient texts, the RSS Chief lamented on the loss of human feelings. He appealed to the people to imbibe good moral values like love, compassion and brotherhood to build a sensitive society.
“Human beings witness many situational changes in their life. The wheel of time goes up and down with regular intervals but the human being remains the constant. What converts the situation into good or bad is his attitude and approach towards these changes. A person with a positive vision would see everything positive in a particular situation and use that change for the betterment of the society. Each one of us, therefore, must develop this positive attitude”, Shri Bhagwat said.
The RSS Chief, whose recent remarks stirred the controversy, said that those who have not lost their sensitivity should come forward and save the situation from sinking further. This would help in controlling the elements that indulge in acts which bring shame to our nation and society, he added. Proper coordination of heart and brain would go a long way in imbibing this positive attitude and inculcating good moral values in our life, he added.
The RSS Chief said that India gave the message of humanity to the entire world. But the situation in our country was exactly opposite to that. Today society is plagued by extreme selfishness, careerism and earning money without caring for others’ well-being. The growing consumerism has altered our social values and customs. Today there was a need to expand our own self to encompass the entire society if we were to get rid of such heinous crimes against the weaker sections of the society, he added.
“Everyone in the country is worried over the present situation. Today we are a free nation but there is a grave danger of internal instability confronting us. If we want to thwart this danger we need to expand our compassion and sensitivity”, the RSS Sarsanghchalak appealed to the masses.
Swamini Mangalananda also spoke on the occasion calling upon the people to widen their positive vision to make entire world a global family.
Dr Shrikant Chorghade reviewed the book and humanitarian touch of the doctor has motivated her to express the feelings in a very lucid manner. Dr Anjali Joshi made the introductory remarks while Rasika Kanhere proposed vote of thanks.
