WHEN the British foresaw that their days were numbered in Bharat they instigated Muslims to demand a separate country. Similarly, they planned to create a crown colony in Northeast region. Robert Reid worked overtime to materialise this plan. They created Excluded Area and imposed Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Naga Hills (now Nagaland) under Bengal Eastern Frontiers Regulation 1873 and Chin Hills Regulation 1896.
The Hindus from rest part of the country were prevented from entering the ILP zone and Excluded Area, whereas the Christian missionaries were put at service to convert them by force, fraud allurement. When Simon Commission came to Bharat, Charles Pawsey – the then Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills stationed at Kohima, drafted a memorandum and asked some of the Angamis to sign, who were his grade IV employees in the DC office. It was Charles Pawsey who founded Naga National Council (NNC), which was taken over by Phizo as its third President in 1951.
Fact is that the Nagas have been fighting for the cause of Bharat since centuries and they want to live with India only. They made sacrifices for Bharat and Hinduism. But efforts are being made by some elements to show that majority of the Nagas are against Bharat. We all know that during World War II in 1944, Angami Nagas and Chakhesang Nagas were assisting the INA in supply of ration, spying and giving protective cover to Netaji. Phizo was coordinating and organising them for every possible help to Netaji and INA. He was a Hindu during those days. The Angamis of Khonoma – Phizo’s village, including great grandfather of Phizo fought against British expansion and Christian missionaries in 1878. They attacked British army and pushed them back to Chumukedima.
The Zeliangrong Nagas revolted against expansion of British aggression, Christian inquisition and harvest of hate by church under the leadership of Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu prior to Independence. They founded Zeliongrong Heraka Organisation and fought for the unity, integrity and sovereignty of Bharat. British Government hanged Haipou Jadonang and imprisoned Rani Gaidinliu for life term. They declared Rani as “Terror of North-East”.
Similarly, the Chang Nagas also revolted against British expansion and Christian crusade but the leaders were done away with. Similarly, all the Nagas revolted against British and Christian missionaries. Taking the advantage of unorganised revolt, the British crushed them one after the other and church helped the British Army.
All the Nagas are Hindu and they proudly proclaimed their Hinduness. All of them opposed the British and the church expansion. They were pro-Bharat before the advent of Christianity. During the Chakhesang Revolt, a total of 48 Chakhesang youths were gunned down in one-go by Christian Naga terrorists of NNC-led by Phizo and their fault was that they stood for their Hindu faith and Bharat. Simultaneously, they opposed church and the NNC.
Church is the master manipulator and intensive instigator in all the anti-Bharat activities. It worked overtime for breaking the cohesion and solidarity of Naga society. The converts in every Naga village established a Christian village out of Hindu village. Rev. Michael Scott and all the American and British missionaries indulged in apartheid like behaviour and created “two worlds” in Naga society through conversion, Christian inquisition and industrialisation of hate.
Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) is a church body for uniting NSCN (IM), NSCN(K) and NNC so that they can put a united fight and demand for secession from the country. World Council of Churches (WCC), World Vision (WV), Baptist World Alliances (BWA) and scores of other international church bodies and church sponsored NGOs are patronising Naga terrorism. The church spread propaganda and spat venom against greater Bharatiya Samaj describing it as enemy of Nagas, which was cent per cent false.
When Muivah found that church force alone was not enough to carve out Nagaland, he sneaked into China in 1976 and returned after extensive guerrilla training imparted by Chinese army. He deserted NNC and founded National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) in 1980 under deep influence of Chinese communism. Now, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and church are behind NSCN(IM).
The vibrant and vital section of Naga society is fully armed with information about Bharat and Hindu society whom the Christian missionaries described as demon and satan and projected Hindus as the enemy of Nagas. This propaganda mechanism is no more effective and Nagas want to live in harmony with Bharatiya Samaj. They aim to rise as high as any other Bharatiya citizen in skilled and non-skilled sectors. They are happy with whatever constitutional safeguards are guaranteed under Article 371A of Constitution. It is more than enough for all-round development if they use the provisions of Article 371A judiciously. NSCN(IM), NSCN(K) and NNC are no more the voice of Nagas. The Church too stand stark naked and missionary mechanism is failing. The Nagas regret for destruction of their age-old religion, culture and distortion of history by church. The propaganda of “Unique History” is no more pragmatic. Even Th. Muivah is disowned as an outsider. All the Tangkhul leaders in NSCN(IM) are discarded and disowned as the outsiders.
The peace and harmony are dawning fast in Naga society and the solution to the Naga problem is revealing. It needs some more time to concretise. No haste in signing any accord. But church is in hurry because they wish to extract maximum when Sonia Gandhi is in power, which she may not be able to retain after general election in 2014. Meanwhile, the developmental projects should be taken at war-footing. Muivah and his cohorts are fully aware of these facts but they are under immense pressure from their foreign masters not to accept the viable proposals. Church is reportedly entrusted to oversee the dialogue with Delhi. They wish to take maximum advantage of powers vested in Sonia Gandhi in UPA-II. The centrally controlled economic package could be a viable solution, which Nagas are dreaming for. But the church should be kept under pervasive surveillance.
