Complete Report on RSS Karyakari Mandal, Chennai

THE three day Karyakari Mandal meeting of RSS concluded at Kelambakkam, at the outskirts of Chennai on November 4. The meeting was held in the beautiful green campus of Sri Shiv Shankara Baba Ashram.

On the concluding day, the RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi addressed the press on the highlights of the proceedings. He was accompanied by RSS Dakshin Kshetra Sanghachalak Shri Vanniarajan, who has served as the Principal of Vivekananda College, Thiruvedagam. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmohan Vaidya was also present.

Talking to media persons, Shri Bhaiyaji said in the meeting review of work, discussions on current situation and plan for the next year were discussed. He said the RSS is running different types of activities at 52,000 places in the country and out of which about 40,000 are daily meetings and 12,000 are weekly/monthly meetings.

“As always we continue our efforts on increasing the work, this year in comparison to last year the daily meetings have increased by 3000. Also in the daily meetings (of about 40,000) 75 per cent of those who attend are below  the age of 45 and out of that about 20,000 are below 25. We have concentrated on college students. In 11,000 colleges there are about 1000 plus activities for the students. Another area of focus is IT professionals. As you all are aware there are IT hubs in places like Pune, Bangalore and Noida. In about 500 places the IT professionals come together once in a week or even daily. As you would be aware Sangh swayamsevaks involve in many service projects especially in slums, urban, Vanvasi areas and remote villages. Over 1,50,000 service activities are being conducted by the RSS,” he added.

He said in the last 2 to 3 years, there has been focus on rural development. 250 villages in 15 states have been adopted for carrying out programmes to improve health, agriculture, self reliance and social harmony. We are sure in near future we will see good results, he added. In the same way the programme on cow protection was taken up and a movement on cow protection launched by saints called the Vishwa Mangal Gou Gram Yatra in which RSS volunteers also participated has yielded good results. Six hundred new ghoshalas/research units have started, he informed.

He said two key resolutions were adopted at the meeting on serious security threat due to infiltration in Assam and other parts of country, and need for comprehensive response to security challenge vis-à-vis China.

Earlier on November 2, the meeting was inaugurated by Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat. Amidst singing of a Tamil Hymn and chanting of mantras, Shri Bhagavat lit the traditional lamp in the presence of Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi. The three-day proceeding was attended by 400 participants from all parts of the country.

After the inauguration ceremony, the Sangh paid tribute to its veteran leaders and eminent personalities of various fields who passed away during the last six months. Notable among them being former Sarsanghachalak Sri KS Sudharsan, former President of Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Trichy, Sri Nithyananda Swamiji, Shri Vaman Rao Pai of Maharashtra, Padma Vibhushan Dr Varghese Kurian, Master Tara Singh, socialist leader Mrinal Gore, film personalities Rajesh Khanna, Yash Raj Chopra and Jaspal Bhatti, former IPS officer and brother of veteran VHP leader Shri Ashok Singhal, Shri BP Singhal, Shri Kasiram Rana, Shri Balasaheb Apte,  Shri Kidarnath Sahni, senior Pracharak Shri Jyoti Swarup, Sri Nana Joshi and host of others.

Immediately after the inaugural session, Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale briefed the media. He said the Karyakari Mandal meeting was being held in Chennai for the first time in the history of RSS. He said the RSS leaders meet two times in a year. Once, in March and once between Vijayadasami and Deepavali.

“We will discuss the plan for three years expansion programme. As we all know the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda will be celebrated throughout the country. Vivekananda Kendra and other organisations inspired by the RSS have come together to form a celebration committee. The Committee will be declared on November 19 in Delhi. The programmes will start on December 25, 2012 which is a very significant day as Swami Vivekananda meditated for 3 days at the famous rock at Kanyakumari starting from this day. The programmes will be in 5 segments – youth, women, intellectuals, rural area and Vanvasi belts with the basic tenets given by Swami Ji –tyaga and sewa. We are going to discuss how the Sangh will involve in these activities. In fact, the planning is going on already for six months. Each state will have a state committee and there will be an All India Committee,” he added.
