The gaffe master

Trust Rahul Gandhi to compare FDI with sacrifices of  the Indian Army and issues of  national security. Speaking on FDI at the Congress rally at Ramlila ground, Rahul Gandhi says: “We were also in the Opposition. Then the Kargil war happened. We were all together. Congress stands together in the interest of the country whether we are in government or not. They (BJP) oppose without any thought. They are engaged only in opposing without giving a thought to anything.”  The Congress top guns on the stage did know what hit them. None had the courage to prevent the eternal “baba” of Congress from speaking his mind, which they feel is suicidal for the outfit. Later at AICC, the Congressmen, who were given the task to officially defend this bizzare comparison, lamented behind closed doors- “God forgive us, for we do not know, what we are doing.”

Sonia family for Walmart

$img_titleThe question being asked in the corridors of Congress is that whether the much hyped  rally at Ramlila Ground managed to boost the image of the party, which is now reeling  under charges of corruption ? Some Congress leaders feel that the rally at Ramlila  Ground is not going to help Congress in improving its image. For some, the rally has “come  too late in the day.” They pointed out that the dynasty is under attack and that there are no  clear cut answers from the G-family.  Congress is dreading the 2014 elections. “Our only  hope is that the BJP is also a house in disarray,” a Congress leader said.

Brew sans fizz

The AICC reshuffle in which Rahul Gandhi is expected to assume a “bigger role” is likely to be carried out before Diwali. All are waiting to see how Rahul Baba leads the party.
None of  the Congressmen had much faith in Rahul’s oratorial skill. Doubts grew over his charisma and organising abilities as the party lost one state after another. Biggest eye  opener was in UP. However, reshuffle or not, Congress spokesperson, Renuka  Chowdhury has already declared Rahul as “number 2” in the organisation.

A riotous gang

$img_titleThe Samajwadi Party, which came to power assuring that justice is for all, has failed to  live up to it. In a shocking incident, which reflects the growing apathy of the UP police, a 25- year-old woman tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrists outside the office of a  senior police officer in Kanpur last week. Mehzabeen, the wife of a rickshaw puller, had  come to the DIG’s office in Kanpur to complain about two men who were sexually  harassing her in her neighborhood in Naubasta locality. The woman was apparently made  to wait outside the DIG’s office for several hours and was not allowed to meet the  official. Desperate, the woman took out a blade from her purse and slits her wrists. As blood  began gushing out,  the cops on duty suddenly woke up to the seriousness of the situation  and immediately rushed the woman to the hospital. The DIG has now ordered an inquiry  into the incident.

First Hindu in US Congress

$img_titleTulsi Gabbard on Wednesday created history by becoming the first Hindu-American to  have entered the US House of Representatives, winning her Hawaii seat by trouncing her  Republican rival in a one-sided contest. An Iraqi war veteran, 31-year-old Gabbard  defeated K Crowley of the Republican Party with a handsome margin. Her victory has  been cheered by the Hindu-American community across the country.
