IN a seminar organised at Kisan Bhavan in Chandigarh on November 25 the leaders of Hurriyat Conference and the voice of the separatists Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had to face humiliation and ignominy and could not dare to express their anti-national statements. When Mirwaiz in his speech started spewing venom against India, it triggered vociferous protests and uproar feeling, provoked the workers and volunteers of Hindu organisations. They vented out their protests and shouted slogans of Vande Matram in favour of Mother India. The allies of Mirwaiz flew into rage and a fierce scuttle ensued between the two groups, leading to a brutal thrashing of Mirwaiz’s allies though he himself succeeded in escaping away from the spot due to the intervention of the police. The people of Chandigarh and all the intellectuals condemned the incident and held the administration responsible for allowing such anti-national programmes and commented that those people who lived in Kashmir and raised slogans in favour of Pakistan, were moving across the country to dismember it and the Central government was witnessing such gory development like a helpless mute spectator. They condemned the attitude and action of the police since it registered a case against the nationalist who voiced against the traitors and ignored the anti-national activities of the separatists and terrorists.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Global Human Right’s council Arvind Thakur took a serious note of the activists and utterances of Mirwaiz and his allies and finding them shocking and offensive, he filed a suit in the court on the charges of making inflammatory anti-national speeches. Reacting on this ugly development Vijay Singh Bhardwaj of Hindu Parishad, the President of Chandigarh unit of BJP Sanjay Tandon and Dinesh Chauhan, an important activist of ABVP and Ram Lal advocate lashed out at the Central government for its weak-kneed and capitulating policy towards the enemies of the country. Consequently the separatists in Kashmir were growing vocal and daring. The intention of the Central government arouses scepticism and reflects its ambivalent and dubious outlook. The way Rahul Gandhi appreciated the disturbing and damaging comment made by Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Kashmir in the Assembly denying the absolute merger of Kashmir into India only to appease the separatists and the way the delegates of the Central government knocked at the doors of the separatists to elicit their views and to placate them have only reinforced the impression about the dubious policies of the Central government, further reveales the mishandling of the situation by the government. They warned the Central government to drop such anti-national policies which could lead to disastrous consequences, otherwise the Hindu organisations would be forced to intensify a nation-wide stir to maintain the solidarity and integrity of the nation.
