ON July 5, 2005, the heavily guarded Sri Ramjanmabhoomi complex at Ayodhya, the site where the Babri structure earlier stood, was attacked by six Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists who were heavily armed with a single RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launcher, five Type 56 assault rifles, five M1911 pistols, several M67 grenades and some jihadi documents. Their cell phones used IMEI numbers. The terrorists drove their jeep into the Sri Ramjanmabhoomi area banging the vehicle against the security cordon. One terrorist got killed in the process. At 9:05 am, they hurled M67 hand grenades from 50 metres away to breach the cordon fence. Firing indiscriminately, the 5 terrorists entered Mata Sita Rasoi. Returning the gunfire, a platoon of 35 vigilant CRPF soldiers by the grace of Hanumanji killed the remaining five terrorists in a gunfight that lasted for about 90 minutes. All the terrorists died within 100 meters of the site. They failed to make it to Ram Lalla’s temple. The terrorists intended to use all the heavy explosives to explode the makeshift Sri Ram temple thereby undoing Ram Lalla’s location at the site and further preventing Him from regaining ground there in future.

Sri Ram Lalla (Infant Sri Ram) staying put at His haloed birthplace is the formidable obstacle for the Islamist terrorists wanting to plough through their evil designs. But Hanumanji made all their explosives useless and made the LeT terrorists go to Yamaalay (House of the Lord of death). The devotees should invoke the prowess of the Chiranjeev (immortal) Sri Hanumanji – who was appointed Kshetrapaalak of Ayodhya by Sri Ram before leaving for Baikuntha Dhaam – and Sri Hanumanji is still worshipped at Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya.

Sri Hanumanji masters all the siddhis (supernatural powers) and the nidhis (supernatural assets) including the Ashta Siddhis (eight occult powers) and Nava Nidhis (nine types of super assets). As the Hanuman Chalisa (brief biography of Sri Hanumanji) testifies, He has even been given a boon and authorised by Mata Sita to endow incidentally at various stages of spiritual evolution of a sadhak with the Ashta Siddhis and the Nava Nidhis – with the advice to preserve them as sacred to keep the sadhak’s potential intact, and with the warning not to get entrapped in it or misuse it or use it for name and fame that would deprive a sadhak of self-realisation or Moksha.

The Ashta Siddhis are: (1) Animas-(power to assume minute/atomic forms), (2) Mahimaa- (power to expand to huge proportions), (3) Garimaa- (power to grow heavy), (4) Laghimaa- (power to become light or weightless), (5) Praapti-(capacity to obtain even the most difficult things), (6) Praakaamya-(Realising whatever one desires. Ability to become invisible), (7) Isitritva-(Divine Power of Lordship, i.e., perfect mastery over the body, senses and, capacity to create or destroy outside objects), (8) Vasitva- (full control over the movement of physical objects; Power to attract others). The other powers that are sometimes included (the total of course, being always eight) are: Kaamaavasaayitva (power of immediate fulfillment of desires), Prakaamavristi (power to bring rain at will), Akrishtapachya (power to get crops without cultivation), Uhaa (capacity to acquire knowledge without a teacher) and so on.

The Nava Nidhis are: (1) Parkaaya Pravesh (Entering into another’s body). A yogi who has attained the samyama state (the power of concentration culminating in samadhi) has developed enough power to detach his mind from his own body and enter into the body of another person or animal or bird – dead or alive – and work through it, (2) Haadi Vidya (Its Siddha has neither hunger nor thirst). This vidya helps detach from the requirement of food and water. Yogi Prahlad Jani of Gujarat is the living example who has had no food and water for over 70 years now and who has no need to excrete. Long medical examinations and round the clock camera observations for weeks together by the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation – DRDO – found the Yogi to be a breatharian living only on air through Pranayam, (3) Kaadi Vidya (No seasonal changes affect the man). Just as one does not feel hunger or thirst in Haadi Vidya, similarly in Kaadi Vidya a person is not affected by change of seasons, i.e. by summer, winter, rain, etc. After accomplishing this vidya, a person shall not feel cold even if he sits in the snow-laden mountains, and shall not feel hot even if he sits in the fire, (4) Vayu Gaman Siddhi (Siddha becomes lighter than air which facilitates His air-travel). He travels from one place to another in a few seconds, (5) Madalsa Vidya (Siddha increases or decreases the size of His body using this knowledge. Hanumanji famously did this many times), (6) Kanakdhara Siddhi (Siddha acquires unlimited wealth through this siddhi – if he chooses to). (7) Praakaya Sadhana (Directing souls to take birth from the womb of a woman – even to the extent of granting motherhood to barren women), (8) Soorya Vigyaan (Through the power of solar beams, transformation of materials are achieved). Sun rays are used to nullify and re-create materials or transform them to the form they choose. Surya vigyan is an ancient technique used by Siddhas, (9) Mrita Sanjeevani Vidya (Rejuvenating/Resurrecting the dead. Dead can be brought to back life using this Siddhi).

As we all know, the Hanuman Chalisa recognises the supernatural powers of Sri Hanumanji and prays for His grace thus: “Durgam Kaaj Jagat Ke Jete, Sugam Anugraha Tumhare Tete.” (Every impossible and arduous task in this world, becomes possible and even easy, by your grace). It also mentions His yogic, diplomatic and military approach to accomplish Sri Ram’s cause: “Sookshma Roop Dhari Siyahin Dikhaawaa, Vikat Roop Dhari Lank Jaraawaa, Bhiima Roop Dhari Asura Sanhaare, Raamachandra Ke Kaaj Sanwaare.” (Showing modesty and humility, you appeared in a diminutive form before Mother Sita, but when Ravan tried to burn alive an Ambassador, i.e., Your Excellency, instead of heeding to your good counsel to release abducted Sita from captivity for the sake of peace and holistic culture of man, you assumed a terrifying form and gutted the wicked, sensuous and arrogant quarters of Lanka and smashed the devils and their advocates that came your way as a testimonial trailor about the formidable nature of Sri Ram’s armed forces in terms of their military prowess, preparedness and striking capability; And, thus, performed Sri Ram’s mission with astute skill, proficiency and diplomacy with the aim to drill better sense into the minds of the rogue and evil powers like Ravan and his yes-men).

The Hanuman Chalisa has gained enormous popularity among the modern-day Hindus. Millions recite it to seek blessings of Sri Hanuman who is a Chiranjeevi (lives eternally), wise, great gnani, yogi, brahmachari (celibate), strong, full of valour, with various skills and powers. Many devotees recite it as a prayer every day (or every week, generally on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays). They believe Sri Hanuman is Mahaabalee (most strong and powerful). They lovingly call Him Bajrangbali-Bajrang means someone whose body (anga) is like vajra (bajra/heavenly bolt). Often his statues are painted in saffron (bright red).

The devotees believe that chanting this hymn would solve their problems. It is believed that those who approach Him with sincerity and devotion everyday are blessed with Bal (strength, power; potency; vigour, vitality), Buddhi (intellect; intelligence, wisdom; sense), Vidya (learning, knowledge; education; science; discipline; skill) and all their shortcomings and problems in life in forms of Klesh (clashes; anguish; affliction; pain; misery) and Vikaar (deformation, defilement; change or variation for the worse; deviation from a natural state; perversion; disorder) are removed.

A simple prayer to Sri Sankatmochan (Trouble Shooter) Hanuman is:-

Asaadhya Saadhaka Swaamin, Asaadhyam Tava Kim Vada? Raama Dootah Kripaa Sindho, Mat-Kaaryam Saadhaya Prabho! [Oh Lord, you are capable of doing the impossible; Is there any act that is not possible by you? O the ocean of compassion, O the emissary of Sri Ram! Kindly bless my work with success and fulfill my request!]

Those who know the Sankat Mochan Sri Hanuman Stotram, recite the same after this. Petitioning to Him is also one of the best ways to get His blessings! He is also most happy and blesses if one chants Ram Naam. We should try to imbibe/internalise the virtues of Sri Hanuman. This Purushaartha enables one to overcome the challenges.

Nemi Chand Jain alias Chandraswami had tried to sabotage the Ayodhya movement by mobilising the Sadhu Samaj through a Som Yagna and various allurements, but Hanumanji undid it and made it an utter failure.

On December 6, 1992 the triple-domed huge Babri structure was pulled down in just four hours by simple manual tools by Karsevaks without the help of any engineering or explosive apparatus or experts usually needed to demolish such buildings. Those that know the mechanism could not understand as to how it was possible. When the amateur Karsevaks inflicted one hit by iron rods or hammer, their blow miraculously struck a hundred times heavier on the structure making the entire structure collapse like a pyramid of cards to the surprise of one and all.

Seventy-seven battles have taken place since 1528 CE to reclaim Sri Ramajanmabhoomi. The superimposed Babri structure could never be completed with minarets for azan, water body for wazu, etc., to give it the character of a full-fledged mosque in spite of repeated efforts made by the invaders/jihadists over the centuries since. On the break of day every time, they saw some essential features of the structure removed. Nobody knew who did it and how! It seems that it was perhaps never allowed by divine plan to be a fait accompli and kept in this manner for the ‘secular’ generation of Hindus to mobilise the core national society of Bharat to reclaim its spirituo-cultural nationalism for the unity of the nation and integrity of God’s own country.

Duniyaa chale na Sri Ram ke binaa, Ramji chale na Hanuman ke binaa (Sri Ram is the mover and shaker of the universe; Sri Hanumanji is Sri Ram’s troubleshooter and accomplisher of His mission)! When Sri Ram vowed: Nishichara heena karahun Mahi, i.e., undertook the mission to eliminate the demonic kingpins (like Ravan of eastern hemisphere, Ahi Ravan of western hemisphere, etc.) and their accomplices in all corners of the earth who all promoted wickedness, sensuousness and terrorism, Sri Hanumanji was ever committed and dedicated to Sri Ram’s cause and made it a grand success.

Sri Hanumanji is also looked up as a catalyst deity of all those who are faced with a life and death situation as utilising His supernatural powers he fetched Susena – the royal physician and surgeon of Lanka – and life-saving herbs from the Himalayas well before dawn to revive and rejuvenate Lakshman from his state of coma due to Shakti-Bhed that could have led to sure death within hours as Lakshman was critically hit by Meghnad’s lethal radio-active weapon in the battlefield.

Sri Hanumanji fetched the Aatma-lingam from Bhagwan Shankar and established it at Rameshwaram. He crossed the oceans, torched the wicked quarters of Lanka, smashed innumerable demons, etc. – all for the cause of humanism and righteousness. Sri Hanuman is a deity in the Hindu pantheon. He is considered to be an ansh/part of Bhagwan Shiva. In the Hanuman Chalisa, Sri Hanuman is identified as the eleventh avatar/incarnation of Bhagwan Shiva. He also leads the Vanavasi (dwellers of the woods), Girivasi (residents of hilly areas) and Gramvasi (villagers) brethren of the world in their fraternal equation with the urban world.

We should recite the Hanuman Chalisa with all devotion sporting on the forehead the Mahaviri Sindoor/vermilion) brought from Hanuman Garhi (Fortress of Hanuman), Ayodhya. Even if some don’t understand Hindi, he/she may enjoy listening to the Hanuman Chalisa recitals, e.g., vide the following youtube records on the internet: Best Recorded Version of Hanuman Chalisa Part-I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYsDtI1QTl4&feature=related] Part-II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxS8YSRIg84&feature=related. Hanuman Chalisa sung by Sri Balaji Tample is available at http://music.balajitambe.com/hanuman.htm

It is believed that the person who chants the Hanuman Chalisa 100 times for 100 days is blessed with the capability to accomplish any of or all the four Purushaarthas (four-fold summum bonum of life, viz., Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha) and enjoys the highest bliss, as stated in verse 38. Each of the 40 verses of the Hanuman Chalisa conveys one particular form of blessing, depending on the Bhaav or Shraddhaa (faith) of the devotee, the fruits of the particular verse are attained. Therefore, a person should chant the Hanuman Chalisa with devotion. In order to gain cumulative power, it would be better to recite it collectively at a temple or at any holy site or under the blissful umbrella of a holy tree. Sri Hanumanji would do the rest. He will have various jobs or things done through the instrumentality of persons whose abilities correspond to a particular task. He got the locks opened, foundation stone laid, temple model prepared, stone blocks, columns and pillars chiseled and carved in this fashion. He will also have the temple constructed in this fashion.

Siyabar Ramchandra Ki Jay! (Victory to Sita’s consort Sri Ramachandra!)

Pavansuta Hanuman Ki Jay! (Hail to Air Deity’s Pupil Hanuman!)

Umaapati Mahadev Ki Jay! (Hail to Uma’s consort Mahadev!)
