WHILE the Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has come out hammer and tongs against the Islamists and the manner in which they were trying to form a Muslim dominated State or rather convert the State into a Muslim one, the State police seems to be least interested in supporting the Karnataka police force to arrest noted Islamist leader Abdul Nasser Madani who is facing arrest as an accused in the Bengaluru bomb blasts of 2008.
A six member team of the Karnataka police led by the DCP, Sidhaiah had to camp in Kollam following the lethargy shown by the Kerala police in supporting their Karnataka counterparts to arrest Abdul Nasser Madani.
The Kerala police, is learnt to have communicated to the Karnataka police that there would be mob violence if Madani is arrested from Anwarassery , the orphanage and educational institution where he is hold up.
The Karnataka police team ,it is learnt have provided written request to the Kerala police for supporting them in the arrest of Abdul Nasser Madani.
The CPI-M which is ruling the State was hand in glove with Abdul Nasser Madani during the last general elections and the party state secretary and Politbureau member Pinarayi Vijayan had waited for more than an hour to meet him at Tirur.
Sources in the State police told this correspondent that the Kerala police is dragging the arrest to be materialised after August 15th as the President Smt Prathiba Devi Patil is reaching Kerala on August 13th to attend various functions through out the State. The State police do not want disruption during the visit of the honourable President. However a top source in the State police told this correspondent that the police is using the presidential visit as a camouflage to their intentions of procrastinating the arrest of Abdul Nasser Madani which is owing to the relation between the CPI-M and Abdul Nasser Madani.
While the CPI-M has taken a principled stand against the Islamists in the State the party has time and again come out in support of the PDP and its Chairman Abdul Nasser Madani.
The CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat said that the arrest of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani could not be termed as a political conspiracy hatched out by the BJP government in Karnataka. He also said that PDP is not an extremist orgnisation. This in itself shows the duplicity of Prakash Karat and the CPI-M. The political stand taken by the CPI-M during the run-up to the Panchayat elections could be termed as only a gimmick of the party to woo the Hindu voters to compensate for the heavy defeat it is facing in the electoral hustings.
The procrastination of the arrest of Abdul Nasser Madani is reducing the credibility of Kerala police and those at the helm of affairs in the force.
Abdul Nasser Madani has already come out against the BJP government in Karnataka and has charged the government with political conspiracy to finish him off. This in minimal terms could be termed as Madani playing to the Muslim vote gallery and what is surprising is the manner in which the Kerala police is playing second fiddle to him.
The Kerala police wasted time in arresting Madani and tried to delay this by stating that there could be major law and order problem in the State if the PDP leader is arrested. The question posed by independent observer is that what exactly is the nature of duty of the State police and whether the State police would be able to crush any untoward incident if Madani is arrested.
