“IT is essential to understand three things-home policies, security and the national policy. But it is matter of regret that our neighbouring countries have already formulated their national policies and they act according to them only, but we have not yet decided our vision in this direction,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat. He was addressing a convention on national security organised by Forum for Integrated National Security in Hardwar on March 10.
The convention was attended by many leading luminaries from the field of security, politics, spirituality, religion and the social sector including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji, former RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri KS Sudarshan, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, former Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Dr Najma Heptullah, former chairperson of National Commission for Women Dr Poornima Advani, Swami Avadheshanand Giri, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Karia Munda, former Secretary of DAE Anil Kakodkar, former Defence Secretary Yogendra Narain and former Director of Intelligence Bureau Ajit Doval. Over 600 delegates from different fields, including the armed forces, paramilitary forces, police, intelligence, bureaucracy, judiciary, education, science and social services, deliberated on issues like trans-border terrorism, security of the North-Eastern states, safe Himalaya, internal threats and several other aspects of national security during the two-day convention.
Shri Bhagwat further said India’s foreign policy is a failure and despite the deception of 1962, India has not learnt a lesson and it has been lost in day dream. He also stressed on the need of destroying the forces that are spreading and motivating terrorism.
Former Sarsanghchalak Shri KS Sudarshan said the national security should be supreme for all Indians and every Indian must rise above regionalism and religious communalism. Swami Satyarnitranand Giri hoped that the country would develop spiritually as well as materially and show to the whole world the true path of peace and happiness.
Former chairman of BARC Anil Kakodkar dwelt at length on the factors which are congenial for nation¬al security as well as those pose a threat to it. Dubbing the killing of innocent civilians by external agencies as a new form of aggression, he stressed the need for interface between the society and security agencies.
Former head of Intelligence Bureau Ajit Doval said the war against an enemy which is not defined cannot be won. Define the enemy and have knowledge about the history, culture, and language of enemy to defeat him, he said.
Convener of the convention Shri Indresh Kumar urged the gathering to consolidate their volition for serving the nation till the last breath while concluding that those who did not love the nation were free to leave it. Chairman of FINS Lt. Gen. (retired) DB Shekhar said the clouds of danger, both external and internal, are looming large over the nation making people’s sensitiveness to national security urgent necessity.
Swami Avadheshanand Giri said the nation was facing security threats due to lack of political will to implement the decisions by political parties. He said the political interest tends to override the national interest, as a result of which a decision which might not win votes for the politician but ensure national security is often not implemented.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said there was a need to identify the forces within the county which are working against the nation and we should have a strategy to tackle them and at the same time strengthen our forces to keep a check on external aggression. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal said the suggestions given by experts of security issue at the convention need to be implemented in the letter and spirit.
