“NANAJI Deshmukh lived his life as a true swayamsevak. He did not move with the existed flow rather turned the society to his own path. He made the society strong and self-dependent. His experiments in Chitrakoot and surrounding areas are unparallel examples This work should continue,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat. He was paying tribute to Nanaji Deshmukh at a condolence meeting organised at the Constitution Club Ground in New Delhi on March 8.

Condolence messages from former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Samajwadi Party president Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav and noted Jain saint Acharya Mahapragya were also read out at the meeting.
Shri Mohan Bhagwat further said the life of Nanaji was entirely dedicated to the deprived people of the society. “He pledged in 1940 to dedicate his life to the nation to complete the unfinished tasks of RSS founder Dr Hedgewar. He enjoyed happiness by wiping out tears of even the last person of the society. He was one in saying and doing. His death is the loss of a tapasvi jivan,” Shri Bhagwat added.
Shri LK Advani described Nanaji as “role model for the politicians” and appealed to the political leaders to follow his ideals in practical life. He said Nanaji lived for the deprived people and never thought for his personal life. “He had good relations even with the ideological opponents. It was due to his efforts that many great leaders like Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Jai Prakash Narayan came close to the then Jan Sangh and RSS in those days,” he said.
In his message Dr APJ Abdul Kalam said: “I have personally known and worked with Nanaji Deshmukh for over two decades and I admire his vision for an integrated societal development in a challenging rural scenario. I have witnessed how the people of Chitrakoot pour their love towards this great soul. The message we derive out of Nanaji’s life is that of nurturing nobility of the leadership and perseverance to accomplish the mission through continuous innovations in technology and management. We will always cherish the memories of Nanaji in the societal transformation he has accomplished. This is a great lesson from a noble soul which should be emulated by every Indian youth.”
Shri Sharad Pawar described Nanaji as “an ideal for all those who are working in the field of constructive activities”. “His work in the field of rural development is unparallel. He found solutions of many problems related to agriculture and rural masses and generated self-confidence among the villagers. He ideally mixed the modern science with Indian traditional knowledge to benefit the common man. Apart from it, he is also a model for politicians. If political leaders start constructive activities in their respective areas, many problems of the society will be resolved in a very short span,” he said adding that the way shown by Nanaji would make the society and the nation strong.
In his message, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav described Nanaji as “a multifarious personality who not only made the villagers self-reliant but also took highly admirable steps in the field of educations”. “He was among the great leaders for whom politics was a mission as well as a medium of serving the people and certainly not a profession. His contribution in restoring democracy during the Emergency would also be remembered for long,” he said.
Shri Nitin Gadkari described Nanaji as an ideal swayamsevak and said his life is inspiration for millions of workers. “Whatever strength of BJP we see today has the contribution of Nanaji also. He worked very patiently when we were out of power,” emphasised Shri Gadkari.
Pramilatai Medhe said Nanaji never forgot his swayamsevakatya. He helped in uplifting those who are weak and deprived. The ideals he has presented in his life need to be emulated by all.
Shri KN Govindacharya described Nanaji as ‘a Mahatma’. “He lived for the deprived people. Though he was moving with a very great objective but he never ignored even the smaller,” he said.
Shri BS Yedyurappa said Nanaji was a father figure for millions of workers and his dynamic leadership created a team of thousands of dedicated workers who are today working in the remote areas. His ideals need to be taken forward, he said.
Sadhvi Uma Bharati said Nanaji lived his life in totality and did not waste even a single moment.
Prof. Vimal Prasad described Nanaji as Itihas purush and an ideal person from all dimensions. By leaving politics to start constructive activities he presented a great ideal before the politicians. “After Gandhiji and Jaiprakash Narayan, Nanaji was the person who impressed me the most,” he said. Shri Surendra Mohan said every moment of Nanaji’s life is inspiration.
Dr Subramanian Swamy who has also been general secretary of DRI, said Nanaji tried to create a balance in materialistic development and spirituality. He promoted integral humanism as an alternative to both communism and capitalism. The best tribute to Nanaji would be that we encourage the young generation to think on this path, he said.
Shri Brahmdev Sharma ‘Bhaiji’ said Nanaji was in favour of utilising the services of both husband and wife for social upliftment. He also wanted that political workers should engage themselves in constructive activities in their respective areas.
Shri Virendrajit Singh said Nanaji practically implemented the thinking of Deendayalji and transformed the life of people in more than 500 villages in and around Chitrakoot. These villages are today disease-free, dispute-free, self-reliant and educated. “Nanaji wanted to implement this model of Chitrakoot in every village of the country. We seek the help of everyone to materialise the dreams of Nanaji,” he said.
