He was addressing a gathering of more than one thousand students at Kolkata’s famous Mahajati Sadan Auditorium on July 9. The function was organised by ABVP Kolkata unit to commemorate the completion of 60 years by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Nearly 600 students from various schools of Kolkata and surrounding areas attended the function. These students secured A+ marks in secondary senior secondary examinations this year. Shri Marathe strongly criticised the commercialisation of education by educational institutions in the name of providing quality education, which is beyond the capacity of majority of the countrymen. He said character, patriotism and samskars are not being included in the curriculum at all. Sri Nripendra Krishna Acharya, a reputed engineer and NRI said our colonial education system did not have the curriculum to make a man of character, a man who has high values and a man of good conduct. Shri Dipankar Das, secretary of ABVP, Kolkata conducted the proceedings and Shri Arindam Mukherjee, state vice president, proposed a vote of thanks.
